What I find very strange in England is that we've seen a huge influx of foreign players and managers in the last 20 years yet we still haven't seemed to take on any of their ideas in coaching.

We appointed two foreign coaches who were always known for being pretty cautious, and that also never addressed the technical development side of the game.

If the FA do not try and tempt Wenger into the fold in some capacity I will despair.

Southgate is a great choice, when he was doing his youth development work for the fa he tried to bring various ideas from the continent to implement in grass root football including smaller pitches only to be blocked at all entrances by the people who employed him.hopefully he can bring some of that to u21 scene.

Psycho was fighting a losing battle there and is well out of it. The FA are more interested in cash over player development hence the likes of Ox-Chamberlain going to Brazil rather than the U21 tournament. The FA will always be the millstone round the neck of England teams at all levels.

I think other players see representing their country at any level something to be proud of, i get the feeling that English players see the U-21 as a stepping stone to first team and consider it a "demotion" if they go from the first team back to the U-21.

Southgate had some good ideas (or just plain common sense!) regarding youth development and I wouldn't mind seeing him in there.

As long as the FA are looking forward with the appointment and not falling back on Glen Hoddle or Peter Taylor then that's fine by me. There are some good young English managers out there would could move the team forward, if they're given the chance to.

I think gary neville would be a good choice...not sure if he has the relevent badges though. Holloway would be great, but doubt he will take a step down.
