Danny Whitehead

19 years old and signed a 2 year deal from Stockport County, he played 43 times for them last season and scored 5 times. Great on the ball and a fantastic passer by all accounts, just needs to work on his physical strength and could prove to be a real find.

Danny on his move…. “I’m very excited to have joined West Ham and I can’t wait to get out there and play.
“It’s obviously a big step up, but I’ve got to take the opportunity and grasp it.
“I was on trial here at the end of last season and all the lads helped me fit in well during the two weeks of training I did.
“I’ve got a bit of experience from playing for the first team at Stockport – I’ll probably be with the Under-21s here at the start, and then I’ll be trying to push towards the first team."

Stockport's website quote..."Everybody here at Stockport County wishes Danny all the success he can achieve at West Ham United FC,"

"As a product of our Centre of Excellence, Danny has come a long way with the Club, and has tremendous potential. We all wish him and West Ham United FC every success in the 2013 / 2014 season."

Hard to see any negatives with this signing. Player with potential and experience. Small investment with little risk and could become a good player

Good signing. But, is there any option to extend his contract knowing it's only a 2-year old deal?

Not sure, options to extend are hardly worth it in any case though, as both parties need to be in agreement for the extension to happen.

Clearly, Carroll won't be fit enough to play season long. He, only once played season long for Newcastle. Need another striker to be honest.

That's why it was an unbelievably ridiculous decision to let Carlton go. Carroll will get injured, as all players do. Also, you need competition for places.

Sam will end up playing Hall, Vaz Te and Jarvis. Cole and Carroll haven't got stamina to play season long.

*Joe Cole

Myhammers, looking at the all adverts (OS Stadium) G&S made with Cole, it's hard to take they didn't offer him a new contract. Maybe, they are very shrewd business people. They might have offered him £10k a week for a season long contract.
