Problems at the back?

I've just been watching your pre season matches on Liverpool tv, you guys are in trouble. You have spent loads on midfielders and now will find it hard to accommodate them all when all the time you are poor in defence.

It's pre-season, yes it has been a bit of a worry, but we have hardly been playing our best defence in every game. We could do with another centre back but if we don't get one then it's not a disaster. As the OP says, the return of Lucas will be a boost as well as he is now a very important member of the team defensively.

Spursbeefcake, main reasons we are poor defensively are given above , judge us when we have Lucas back and when we have bought a new LB.

Also transfer window not yet closed, we will offload some of our midfield (Jova on way and Cole won't be far behind) and expect one or two new signings for other areas.

Suarez, Gerrard, Henderson, Kuyt can all double as support strikers so in these we have two for the price of one.

And just to make clear, once Lucas is back we will be far more solid, he is getting close to being the best DM in the country if not Europe.

Lucas has improved considerably over the last season, but I would like to see him have some competition at DM. For me, Poulsen and Spearing arn't good enough, although to be fair to spearing he did do well towards the end of last season, but he lacks consistency.

I doubt it will happen, but I would like to see a DM come in if Poulsen and Spearing could be moved on. I think as a team we badly missed the bite of Mascherano playing in front of the back four last season.

I'm sorry but (and its a big but) Lucas is very average,true he has got better but he used to be poor. Plus a midfield player does not make your defence better,he helps by stopping the ball getting through to your defence...once its past him the defence are on their own.
I'm not trying to pick a fight by the way(my father in law is a Liverpool fan). I think you should be looking for an English cb like cahill and get rid of the light weight foreign cb. That is all

Lucas is now a very good player. He is severely underrated by fans of other clubs.
