The next generation of console wars

As a former Sony fanboy (I had the PS1 and PS2) and the owner of both an Xbox 360 and PS4 I am somewhat relieved that Microsoft have reversed their policies with regards to the Xbox One and the always online DRM component. I genuinely believe that this could have been a deal breaker and so it proved with the absolute thrashing that it was alleged to have been taking in the pre-order stakes.

A console war in which the winner has already been determined is not healthy for the gaming market and I think with Microsoft back in the game (though with a lot of making up to do) it can only be beneficial to gamers as Sony must now press home their advantage and up their game (no pun intended).

Im excited to see what new games these systems can produce and for me as a massive RPG fan I am greatly looking forward to the likes of The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition. My first console will be the PS4 but with recent developments I may be looking to get an Xbox one later in the gaming cycle.

My first console purchase will most likely be late 2014 with a price cut and when most of the first wave of high value games have been released.

My point I guess is that Microsofts shift in stance is actually beneficial to Sony gamers as well because it means that Sony will have to ensure that their console performs to its maximum potential to ensure that they win this next generation and that it cant stand on its gaming policies alone.
