A Dunne deal?

Could former Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa defensive stalwart Richard Dunne be drafted in to partner Richard Keogh at the back?

http://www.independent.ie/sport/nigel-clough-reveals-interest-in-bringing-richard-dunne-to-derby-county-29380019.html

I remember the lift that Alan Stubbs gave our back four in the half-dozen games he played until ultimately his decrepit body got the better of him. Could this be a similar outcome, but with hopefully none, or certainly less of the injury risks?

I certainly hope so!

UTR.

Positives
Experienced defender at the highest level in English football.
Unlikely to find a premiership club within commuting distance, has kids and probably does not want to move so Derby would be a good move for him.

Negatives. Couldn't break into a struggling Villa side last season.
Is more lethal in his own net than Connor Sammon or Simon Cox are in the oppositions.
Has an iffy disciplinary record.

Also a one year contract could be a stop gap until Barker is back (assuming Barker will be back).

Not Spart,

To be fair to Dunne he was injured for the majority of the season & Villa's policy was to use as many young players as possible last season, Bent couldn't get in the side also

Not to put the skids on it but Qpr are supposed to have opened talks already with him already and we know they're not afraid to splash the cash.

Jorvik beat me to it, dunne was a victim of injury, then villas selection policy. Not his fault. Easily good enough for this league, would definately count as a "marquee" signing for me, and if signed on a one year contract, we could shell out on higher wages for him without disrupting the harmony, I think other players would accept that he is worth the money for the upgrade, experience, ambition, intent etc his signing would bring.

You would get all the positives that bucko brings, plus a massive upgrade in the defensive skillset.

They aren't afraid to splash cash they don't actually have Igor.

Igor, if FFP carries any clout whatsoever then they shouldn't be able to offer him anymore than a mars bar, 50p and a stick of chewing gum. They're a joke of a club and all that is wrong with the game today. I'm sure fernandes' air asia will "sponsor" them a more than generous sum though to make sure they can afford to pay chris samba 100k a week with gates of 17000 and zero revenue outside of their corner of london.

Lets hope thats the case and we nail apay as you play deal, as vidal said before a bit like McGrath.

We certainly are going for the Irish contigent! Just as long as Clough does not go for Stephen Hunt (Wolves, free transfer)!!!!

Love to see R. Dunne as a Derby player but given his injury record in the last two years and personality (has clashed with a few managers), Clough could have a new public enemy number one.

Dunne was on the same coaching course as NC and they had a chat. NC told him how much Derby could pay him and he said he'll think about it but also is going to talk to Palace and Hull. It comes down to if he wants to play regular football at Derby or be abit part player in the Prem but earning more money.
