If Billy brings in the two wingers he wants; does that mean our default formation is going to be 4-4-2?
I think it does, and if it is I have two slight worries: Firstly, many top teams seem to have abandoned this formation in favour of something more fluid (4-3-3, 4-5-1). Secondly, in a 4-4-2 I would expect the two central midfielders to be Pep, and Henri. This in turn would mean Raddi, Lewis and Reidy would be left out among other good midfielders - that's possibly our three most creative players not on the pitch.
I would also like to see two wingers coming in who have proved themselves at Championship level. Paterson and McLaughlin are an unknown quantity; they may or may not turn out as good as McLeary. Ideally I would be looking at wingers such as Sterling, Sako, Phillips, Townsend to come in.

Why does wingers mean 442 - could just as easily be 4-5-1. Or even a fluid 4-3-3 - Paterson, I am led to believe, is a winger and a striker, so 4-3-3 could def be a possibility with him. I still hope we're going to bring one more winger in at least - McLaughlin didn't get a game last year so doubt he's ready. Also, it would be silly to just have two wingers if we're planning on playing with width regularly. Wingers are the most fragile of footballers and we'll need back up.
I really can't believe that somebody is worrying about us bringing wingers in. It's exactly what we need. That is very very obvious. And if there's more competition between Raddi, Lewis, Reidy and the like then good - it might make them step up every time they play instead of just when they fancy it.

I can see Patterson in the team with McLaughlin on the bench and vice versa throughout the season. Think it would be a rare occasion when both played.
Regarding the likes of Sterling, etc, they would cost a bomb in wages and we would be developing players for other teams who would then benefit from the transfers fees if they then sold them on. Far Better to develop our own talent, such as Patterson/McLaughlin, and sell them on ourselves if needs be.

wingers arent exactly reknown for lasting entire seasons without injuring. Tbh, i like what we'll have on the wings once we have paterson in (hes allegedly passed his medical, announcement pending).
Lansbury and raddi competing for CM. Reid and loffy competing for LW, and both bring different of kinds attibutes. The same on the RW, i guess paterson would be competing with lansbury, especial if we play a 4-3-3.
I still beleive both have a solid future ahead of them here if given the chance.

Red, why worry, this just gives us more options. Last season when things weren't going right and we were struggling to break teams down we tended to have to swap players like for like but keep on playing the same system. Now if the midfield is being countered by the opposition we can change things and formations much easier and vice versa if we start with wingers and they are being nulified we can easily revert to the type of system we had last season.
