bonsoir again buds --- martial here
little bit off topic but it can include any current driver in whatever formula you choose ,just interested to know who people think is the best current british sportsman or sportswomen ,
for me any sportsman that relies on there machinery such as any driver , cyclist , horsey person ( yes a horse is not a machine ) yacht person , powerboat , motorbike and so on is out of the question because very likely they have a machinery advantage over the others in there respective sport so the playing field is not level hence they have an unfair advantage to begin with -
which for me only leaves any kind of athletics , boxing , tennis etc who are not reliant on anykind of unfair advantage as cyclists , drivers etc are ,
britain off course has a number of decent athletes but none that really spring to mind or stand out , in boxing there is david haye but blotted his copybook when he got spanked by klitschko , we also have aamir khan but he is also out because of his glass jaw ,
which for me only leaves tennis and who can now deny that after today andy murray is the one british sportsman that stands out and very likely will now become one of the major winners of grand slams for the next 6 years or more -
------------- is anybody more deserving than this ultra talented scotsman of this prestigious award --
CURRENT BEST BRITISH SPORTSMAN

" the doubts will remain " ------ with who -
would you seriously have the bollox to bet your house that he is not in the top dozen or so of all time in the next credible poll that comes to light in the autosport or wherever ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ thought not

Coulthard for one, Alonso another.
Anyways, this is boring as you won't be changing my opinion so there's no point continuing this discussion

not trying to change your opinion manx -
why should i ------- the record books will prove you wrong in the next few years when vettel is ranked as an all time great as he very nearly is already

Like the record books suggest Schumacher is greater than Senna?

what has schumacher and senna got to do with anything , they are both thought of as all time greats as vettel will be when he wins championship no 4
fraid to say hamilton will never be ranked as an all time great or a great or anything special because he just is not achieving very much or winning very much neither is he looking anything special whilst he is achieving nothing

I think the key issue is having this in the motorsport section then discounting racing drivers!
There are a few good shouts in here, know the topic refers to 'man' but I'd put Jess Ennis in here well ahead of the likes of Haye and Khan. If we have to go for men then the Brownlees must take some beating in multi discipline strength.

The Schumacher example dear martial uses the same logic you apply to Vettel. Keyword, 'recordbooks'

yeh i was aware of your straw clutching the first time you said it -
whether it be record books , F1 experts , F1 historians or whatever , vettel will be always be in front of hamilton by virtue of his achievements and the way he goes about amassing those achievements which are only going to increase as the yrs progress -
to put it into perspective what other 4, 5, or more WDC is not thought of as an all time great by the F1 experts ? and as sure as night follows day vettel is going to win it 4 , 5 , 6 , times or more hence why it is absolutely inevitable that the F1 historians will rate him as an all time great -
where as hamilton --------- will he even win a race this year ?
will he even win a race next year let alone the WDC when all the engines have parity ?
will he even win another WDC before he becomes a pop rapper or retires or will he stay ranked alongside jaques villeneuve with 1 solitary WDC and forgotten by the historians as villeneuve is

Hamilton will never be forgotten, you talk about him far to much for anyone to forget him Martial
and who knows what the future holds for any of the drivers on the grid. Who saw a guy called Vettel getting 3 (4) WDC's before it happened? Who saw a rookie beating a 2xWDC before it happened? maybe one day Villeneuve might even stop blowing his own trumpet

nsix
you know me nsix i like a bit of harmless banter on here mixed in with my usual calm thoughtful logic ,
fluck me if i started singing from the hamilton song sheet on here people would regard me as long lost brother who has just won the lottery and treat me accordingly
------- cant be doing with any of that old bollox
