Now I'm pretty sad that Benteke has handed in a transfer request, but in truth in today's game these things don't come as a shock, but are still surprising. However I still feel regardless of what occurs these people need to understand what the word 'respect' means.
Whatever happens, the first thing I'd like to do is thank Christian for practically keeping us up last season. What he did on the field was truly amazing, I can never and will never fault that. I'm only 21 and even though Christian was our player for one season, he is truly one the best players I have seen to put on a Villa shirt, so for that I thank you.
However, Christian needs to understand that he is disrespecting those who gave him the chance. These people put faith into an unknown quantity, with our manager constantly stating he is a top player and we got the rewards. That faith given to you should not be disrespected via a transfer request. I don't care who you are and what you do. The supporters of football clubs pay these players their wages.
I have always said one season does not and will not define your career. I truly believe Benteke has to watch his steps here because he could be taking them too quickly. You came into the Premier League without any expectations, thus meaning you had nothing to prove. But, if you think you are that good enough by handing in a request why don't you stay and prove yourself this season when everybody expects? Then we can talk.
Otherwise, if Christian Benteke moves then I hope he moves to a club that can provide him with Champions League football because if you think you are that good enough then you deserve to go to the top.
If Benteke leaves I will be bitter at times, but after all we are supporters of our clubs. However, wherever you move I still wish you luck because when you have a look at what you did for us. We can only thank you. But please show some respect!

If this goes ahead, Levy should be lauded as the greatest negotiator the world has ever seen.
It won't
Ade is a far better player than Defoe tbh

Hope Benteke does not come to Spurs this season.
Very much a case of "do unto others" for me (Berbatoss etc) .

Spurs can't afford him. For all their media hype they don't spend that much money on players and have already spent £17m on Paulinho.

Spurs have the funds to buy Benteke, although I do think he is over priced at £22m!!

If he goes, I don't care where he goes so long as we get the cash. And I mean cash. No useless players in part exchange, like us taking Ireland when Milner went. Confident that Lambert won't stand for that anyway.
Re Benteke last season, don't overrate what he did. He scored some superb goals. He also had difficulty in maintaining pressure throughout the match, and in a number of matches he was on walkabouts. He's still got a lot to learn, part of growing up as a player. Daft thing is Villa is a good place to do that.
Did his goals keep us up? Probably. But then so did Guzan's saves. And the team performances overall, particularly towards the end of the season. As for other forwards, Weimann not only scored goals but had a work rate which made things happen, and Gabby had his best season for years. So, great goals from Benteke, but it's a myth that single-handed he kept us up; thank Lambert and the team as a whole for that.

25m. Liverpool and Chelsea have paid more for worse players.

I haven't read the whole article (as i've only got a spare 20 minutes until i have another work meeting) but i totally agree with the point you make above.
If a player isn't given a chance they would bang on about "I have been left frozen out", "the manager hasn't given me a chance" and then when a manager leaves out a high profile player like Bent, and puts his neck on the line, the player he kept faith in kicks him in the teeth with a transfer request at the first opportunity.
Football does stink sometimes but most clubs are victims of this one way or the other.
