Global Brand

On Talksport earlier they were talking about how established/well known some premier league clubs are in the USA and the suggestion was (from a guy living out there) that on average about 1 in 10 people would know who Tottenham Hotpsur are.

With Dempsey and Friedel as Spurs players and a picture of Bale being used for premier league adverts in Times Square I was suprised by this. It was an eye opener just how far Tottenham still need to go to become as well known as some of the other more established premier league clubs.

Whats should Tottenham therefore do to improve the global brand?

"The Deuce helps"

Hmm.

So who is this guy plastered on the ad ??
His name is Bale, and he's a great player in that PL.

And what team does he play for ??
He plays for the Hotspurs, same team as Dempsey.

You can't deny he'd have raised out profile over there RDBD.

Bale is the poster boy though, obviously

Almost as if Levy had been in the USA a lot in the past 18 months, saw the commercial interest in the PL rising, and thought buying a USA player would be useful.

Nah, our Levy is just not that smart when it comes to Spurs and business ...

I've spent a lot of time in America ~ 8 months of my life over there.

You'd be surprised how many people support Spurs over there. Went to several different bars for to watch the games and there were loads of Americans with Spurs shirts.

Don't think I saw any Chelsea or Liverpool shirts. Saw a few Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Newcastle shirts though.

Never credited the marketing team, it's what we've been doing on the pitch that got us noticed. The Deuce helps

You personally may not have. Certainly the conversation involving Thudd and Brutus was centered on Levys marketing in time sq. he done none of this.

And yes, thanks to Bale more people know who spurs are. But Americans are more conscious of the superstar player brand rather than the superstar team brand. Hence why beckham was so successful here. Ask any regular yank on the street if they know beckham they would say yes. Ask them who he played for and most would be clueless.

My point merely is for those few lads not to get too carried away with Levys shrewdness when it's got nothing to do with him

Clearly he plays a large part in it, his decisions both on and off the pitch have taken us forwards in leaps and bounds.

Purely anecdotal and circumstantial,

I've been here 10 years and seen very very few spurs shirts. Mostly liverpool, utd, arsenal and Chelsea.

Is my bar room analysis any more relevant than yours?

1 in 10 knowing of us is astonishing!

Only something like 2 in 10 know who their own President is!
