"Well done, but I'll beat you next time"

When I coach kids, I always teach them to handshake after a match, I also tell them to say 'Well done, but I'll beat you next time" not maliciously but to help them not worry about having lost and to get them to want to do better next time.

I recently had a coach at my club say she wouldn't allow this in her class as it's not very sporting.

My view is that we should encourage kids to want to win and this simple add on to 'Well done" helps nurture kids competitive spirit whilst stopping them getting upset at losing.

What do you think?

If you're not trying to win, what's the point in taking part. It's not like your suggesting "next time I'll break your legs and kidnap your teddy bear."

cheers admin, ad-nan.....I think she was almost just trying to find fault with my style, but actually the kids like it and no longer get upset at losing and actually win more!

Jonty, you always appear to be a level headed guy, stick to what you are doing. This nanny state we live in will produce more and more of these so called PC people which is a sad for the future of our children!!!
