Absolutely brilliant signing I must say. £20 million will have been a bargain after the season he will have with you guys. The guy has raw pace, unbelievable tekkers, an eye for a cross and can beautifully pull out a goal from nothing. He definitely has the potential to win the Ballon D'Or one day, and with a winger like him in your team I would be very very scared. He will compliment the technically gifted Andy Carroll superbly and the one two link up play he can execute will be Barca-esque. I see his overall game improve even dramatically this season and I can definitely understand the rumours of him finally stepping out of Lionel Messi's shadow of the best player in the world.

Aquilonso, i am a United fan, and genuinely curious in this statement (i.e. not wumming). What makes you believe that Downing will be a better signing than Young ever could be?
From recent England performances, i thought Young has looked very effective, not sure i could say the same about Downing. Young's preseason outings have also shown him to be a rather useful addition to our squad to, and being a naturally left sided player, gives us vital cover, and allows Nani to play on his preferred side.
Please note i think both players are good additions to each squad, so this is not a oneupmanship post.

Probably the best English left winger around, Villa's best player for a few years now and he's filling the hole that Obertan left, so definite improvment there..

hahaha, hint of jealousy i detect..?? Downing is a class act with 8 goals and 9 assists last season. With all fit Suarez, Gerrard, Downing & Carroll is one of the best attacks in the world! And we can throw in Meireles, Henderson, or Kuyt, great options, which any team in the premier would welcome with open arms. ynwa

Why are all you guys arguing? Can we all just happily admit that Stewart Downing was the buy of the season and that no one, yes NO ONE, comes close to him in terms of wing play and downright technical ability?
If I had to choose between Downing, Mata, Navas or Robben, I would not hesitate for Mr. Stewart 'Do you like me tekkers?' Downing.

If you say so, I would say England haven't got world class wingers, but he is a good player...
Also on the downing and young comparison, young's better, younger can play more positions and was cheaper.... all in all better signing...
