SUPERB! Could and should be the first English man to 400-wickets, and a lot more too! Enjoy him while we have him!

When comparing Anderson and Steyn, please refer to my earlier post:
Anderson was an average bowler in the first half of his test career. He was quite poor on the road. He got better in the recent years.
2004-2009: M44, W148, Av 34.5
2010-current: M39, W169, Av 25.2
This is quite unusual for a pace bowler.
------------
Steyn, in contrast, has been excellent throughout his career.
2004-2009: M34, W172, Av 24.0
2010-current: M31, W160, Av 21.2
-----
We have to look at Anderson's career to determine where he belongs in history. There is no doubt that he is very good at the moment.

and to add to what robbie said, in India steyn's records are incredible. He probably holds one of his best bowling records in india. espcially in pitches like kanpur and amhedabad(probably the flattest track in india).
anderson did well last year, but no where near what steyn has done.

Jimmy is without doubt a world class bowler, however given a choice between him or Steyn im afraid it would definitely be Steyn

Steyn cant bowl to left handers.. His hand position is mainly for the late away swing to the right handers.. he gets so many wickets because of it.Anderson doesn't have the record of steyn.. But in the last 3 years hes been the best seam up bowler in the world.. He didn't do it againt SA because the wickets England prepared last summer were ridiculously flat. The oval being the prime example.. SA just out battered England and won.
Anderson will bowl better in South Africa because the wickets are usually have a little more pace and there should be swing with the humidity.

Isn't it more bounce and seam in SA?

it can get very humid in SA just before a thunderstorm. Which they get daily in the summer months.Dominic Cork and Mathew Hoggard bowled well when they toured down there, both swing bowlers.

When we last toured (2009-10) South Africa, Swann was the most successful England bowler with 21 wickets @31.4.
Anderson 16 @34.0
Steyn 15 @23.8
Morkel 19 @21.5

Jimmy's performance in the current Ashes tour so far:
Bowling average - 50
Strike rate - 100
Harris can swing, Jimmy cannot.
Mitch can bounce, Jimmy cannot.
Siddle can seam, Jimmy cannot.
