Possible Triple Swoop

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-christian-eriksen-toby-2050211

According to the above link, we are aiming to bring in Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld & Ryan Bertrand. I don't know how reliable this story is, but multiple news outlets seem to be reporting it, so maybe it does have legs.

I for one would view this as fantastic business. Bertrand would provide strong competition at LB with Enrique, and has impressed when I've seen him play for Chelsea in the past.

Alderweireld would be a good CB choice imo. I am aware of Norwich's interest and I feel he is too good for them. At the age of 24, I feel he has a few years he could give us, and could form a top quality CB pairing with Agger if given the chance.

Eriksen, as I've said before, is a quality, quality player who would fit perfectly with our team. At the reported £15M, I feel that is a steal and we need to rap this up soon to avoid missing out on him.

This could be a potential first team line up next season:

-----------------------Mignolet
Johnson---Alderweireld------Agger---Enrique
------------------Lucas-------------Gerrard
Suarez------------------Coutinho-----------Eriksen
---------------------------Sturridge

I know there are some question marks in that line up. Mignolet or Reina? Will Suarez be here? But, whatever way you look at it, that line up is top quality and would see us strongly in the running for top 4 and beyond!

As always, all comments and views are appreciated.

RAP, Mata and Kagawa are 4 / 3 years older than Eriksen.

And don't forget Eriksen plays in a small league, with a lot less exposure then any of the others you mentioned.

But if you saw Ajax play in the CL against City, you would have noticed he was unplayable for the City squad for most of the 2 games.

And tbh, I think he would have done a better job at Man U last year then Kagawa.

Would he ever become as good as Mata? Dunno, but he has 4 years to get there, and do believe it's feasible for him.

The real (fat) Jan Molby has said that he hasn't really progressed in the last couple of season. There was a lot of hype about him a few season ago and Jan thinks that he hasn't really taken the steps forward that he was expecting. Not saying he's a bad player, just as not as good as he'd made out to be. Perhaps tells us why no one else has bid for him and why if we were to get him it'd be for £15m or so.

I agree RAP.

My worry is signing Eriksen would push Coutinho wide left.

Coutinho looks brilliant in the middle and is a big goal threat.

I don't think Eriksen would come here to play wide, and I don't really want Coutinho pushed wide to accommodate him.

Eriksen is a very good player but I am personally not convinced he as good as his hype and I am not sure we need him in particular.

I would rather we spent £15m on a defensive midfielder.

Eriksen plays at Ajax left on midfield. Ajax play a 4-3-3 formation, with midfield Eriksen - Poulsen - de Jong (Poulsen plays as a DM, just in front of his defence).

So to score 13 goals in 45 games from that position is not bad. You can't compare him with Mertens, he's a proper striker and plays in a totally different position.

So, LFC could play Coutinho through the middle, with Eriksen left of him.

Maybe the real FJM should remember he is only 21, and had his breakthrough at a very young age. Quite often this youngsters will have a few ups and downs in their development.

Any team who wants him must pay approx. 15 mio Ajax have said, otherwise they'll keep him. Ajax value him too much, and rather keep him one more year and let him go on a free.

Toby, not sure. He's decent, and is used to play a bit futher away from his goal, which is a great plus looking at last years performance from Skrtel. But he's no Vertonghen, he was a proper bargain last year for Spurs.
Good addition for the squad, let him fight it out with Kolo for the starting 11. But won't loose sleep if LFC doesn't sign him.

That would give us a ridiculously attacking midfield though surely if Eriksen is in a three with Coutinho and A N other.

We have tended to play more 4-2-3-1 in the last 6 months, so if Coutinho is centre of the three than Eriksen would have to play as the wide left forward, this doesn't really suit him does it?

Righteous,

Depends who are playing as the 2 DM's. Holland reached the final of the world championship with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with van Persie as striker, and Kuyt, Robben and Sneijder on midfield.

At Ajax Eriksen has even played as a right winger a fair amount of games. He's not a proper winger, but can certainly play wide, especially on the left.
And think of Eriksen and Coutinho constantly changing position with each other. Both can play CAM, both can play wide. Would rip quite a lot of defences open I would imagine, with defenders being forced to choose.

Now think of Eriksen, Coutinho AND Suarez playing on midfield behind Sturridge, constantly changing position. Like I said, Eriksen has played right winger at Ajax, and Suarez both left and right winger. Would be a defenders nightmare.
