Papiss Cisse has not travelled with Newcastle to their pre-season tour of Portugal after refusing to wear the clubs sponsor on religious grounds.

Make of it what you will.

Wonga is primarily a loan company, while the others are primarily banking(correct me if Iam wrong, not been in the UK for several years). If he does want to leave Newcastle could call his bluff and say ok, you can wear a shirt without the Wonga logo.
I don't know how pious Cisse is. He may be pious now compared to his younger age, I can't qualify that without knowing him. If he does have a GF then he isn't really very pious. Still, if he wants to move he should say so.

The example about the South African batsman is interesting, if more footballers were like that (no cheating or trying to deceive the ref) I wonder how football as a sport would be like now.

Silly player from a sill team, in a silly league, in silly country said something silly about some religious practices and that is discussed by silly posters(including Edin) and wasted few hours of their silly lives. What a silly situation.

So funny watching people trying not to step on eachothers toes and express their views too strongly incase they offend.
It is only religious debates that do this to people. People too scared for a backclash to say what they actually feel or if they disagree with a certain part of a religious belief. Especially when it comes to Islam(see south park episode for example)
Religion and religious studies are good for children to see other cultures and a lot of religions have good moral codes and teach the difference in right and wrong. But people who believe every thing preached in a book written years ago is up to them but quite worrying and can have consequences as we have seen. I have tried debating with religious people before and the only answers to questions like"how do you know god or allah exists" are either"because it is written, or because it is" no facts or anything else.

If someone started a religion today people would call them crazy and never believe what was preached.
Respect what people believe but don't be scared to learn or ask questions about it which people are when it comes to religion.

Thing is chicken in some quarters you may already be married.
Eg in the Islamic faith you only need 2 people to witness that you accept each other as partners (man and wife) and you are classed as married.

Marriage doesn't need all this pomp and pageantry.

Also this Papiss thing is easy to sort out:

It should be easy to sort out..

The cost (calculated) of displaying the logo on one shirt should be classed as a charitable contribution, therefore tax deductible for Wonga.

Wonga should then name a charity and Cisse can wear the name of that charity.

Wonga get some tax relief, charity gets exposure, Cisse feels valued, Newcastle get a motivated player.

Fining him is just punitive, and stupid.
