Beckford to Bolton

for £undisclosed, as usual. But we can take it that it's a move to get him off the books rather than a big pay day for us.

It's good news to me though, and at least frees up the wages to afford the players we want to keep. We'll see in time whether it frees up the funds to bring in any new players as well, although the days of high transfer fees are obviously over.

Still, I wish Beckford well in what will probably be a team of genuine contenders next year, with or without him. It'll be interesting to see how he does next year under someone who appears to be a very impressive young manager who he's played alongside before. The fact he's been given a two-year contract tells me that Bolton are giving themselves a bit of cover, but this is probably his last chance to rekindle his ambition and push for the big time.

As for us, I'm pleased that he's gone, simply for the release of a big, red minus number from the annual balance sheet. I doubt it'll stop the arguments over his ability and whether he could have done better for us with greater guidance and gentler management, but at least it'll make them irrelevant.

Yep, farewell Beckford. All the best. Don't wish any misfortune on him and similarly couldn't really care less if he does go on to re-kindle his (seemingly long ago) goal scoring form. He's moved on, so will I.

Though he will always leave me with one very happy memory, his hat-trick against Forest in the cup replay. Happy days.

I too wish him well, the same as i wish Denis Unwise, and Alan Shearer.

I think he'll be averagely good for Bolton. That's his level.

I prefer better players with better attitudes personally.

I'm glad he's gone.

Thorney, can't really compare Beckford to Wise and Shearer. Beckford couldn't be @rsed, that's true enough, but he's not a cowardly thug like the other two.

16 goals in 73 championship appearances, which most have been starts (a goal every 4.5 games) - Isn't that great.

Similar rate to Vardy and Waghorn, both bench starters (a goal every 5 games at this level) and we're crying out for someone to take them off us.

He will score goals for Bolton but I'll put my neck out and say only about 10-12 league goals

As long as none of them are against us!
