Benteke takes them to the cleaners and all they can talk about is how small Spurs are they all went missing last season on these boards and its hilarious seeing them pipe up right now.
Makes me realise from the old bbc 606 what arrogant tos sers a lot of Aston Villa fans are. Know your place Aston Villa fans. You are a mediocre side that will be battling relegation once again next season. You have not won a trophy since 1996 (17 years) atleast we have won something recently.
Aston villa are probably the worlds most boring and pointless club. Get over yourself, Benteke signed because he had no other options rather than turning down anyone. Look forward to owning you once again this season ... Coys!!!
What a sad bitter bunch...

On Modric, we would have been happy to retain his talent, but as I recall from 2011, when we rejected Chelsea, we were certainly unhappy about his attitude. And to Don's point, we certainly never said Chelsea or Real would have been a step down/smaller club in the present day.

Plenty of Spurs say Chelsea are a small club, just one that got lucky with a sugar daddy

The problem I have when trying to argue points on her, or in general, is that there is a proportion of Spurs supporters who are idiots. Much the same with every club.
So you try and put together a point, it will be be undermined by something one of these people said once upon a time. Reminds me of the people gloating saying mind the gap to gooners.
Chelsea are clearly a bigger club. It's safe to say that they definitely have more fans than us. And the rest, given their success over the last decade is unarguable.
I think the confusion of this thread is that a) no one knows what makes clubs bigger than others, unless there is a clear gap, and b) size of club and whether a player would want to move from one club to another aren't exactly the same thing. Or else Liverpool, who admittedly still punch above their current status with signings, would be able to attract the best players in the world.

*More fans now, particularly globally.

The problem with the big club argument is fans trying to equate it with the current standing of their club. History is where you came from, and whilst it might give you a sense of pride, basking in the glories of bygone years means absolutely nothing when it comes to judging your sides chances in the coming season.
Over the last few seasons Spurs have been chasing top 4, Villa have ben struggling to stay in the top flight...that's not opinion, it's just the way it is. History, heritage and fan base don't make the slightest difference when it comes down to it.

Don, in terms of major trophies surely a team has either won more or not. Whether the number is 1, 2 or 3 or 4 different it is still crucially more
If you look in the last 20+ years Tottenham have won, what, 2 trophies - which just highlights what a big difference the number is
If it wasn't for Fergie Tottenham would probably still hold the FA Cup record mate
As for the point about people knowing the name Tottenham Hotspur more than Aston Villa again I doubt that is true. One of the clubs has won on Europe's biggest stage, played more in the top flight and competed in the World Club Cup and European Super Cup- the other Tottenham simply haven't. You probably have to take yourself out of the situation to look at it objectively.
Also, a quick look on internet trends shows there has been more interest in Aston Villa than Tottenenham Hotspur over the last 10 years and last year. It's factual rather than a opinion.

I don't think so Brutus mate, not sure where you got your Internet trend fact from because its clearly not true. Spurs are a better supported club than villa that's for sure worldwide and nationally.
Brutus, in the last 20 years spurs have still won more trophies than Villa.

Don, I understand you think that and I'm not saying you're defenitely wrong but the information I have seen isn't supporting what you are saying mate.
As for last 20 years both clubs have won 2 league cups each
Both clubs should have won more that is for sure

Most are responses to spurs fans.
"well we didn't want him anyway" comments.
"He was never worth that."
3 to 4 years ago Spurs were rock bottom of the league and Harry saved you.
It is unlikely either side are going to get into that kind of mess this year.
But with both wobbles it was the same cause, losing a manager and a poor manager stepping in and bringing in a load of rubbish. McLeish for us, Ramos for you.
If AVB goes and takes Bale and some Joker is appointed, don't be so arrogant that the same mess can't happen again.

With the squad he had, you expect nothing less from a vaguely decent manager.
