BCCI controls CSA?

This is disturbing news: India is opposed to the election of Lorgat as the CEO of Cricket South Africa?

Miffed that CSA made it's own decision, BCCI officials wasted not time in unleashing threats of possible repercussions.

So, SA is now ready to bend over backwards...

Sad state of affairs, indeed!

Excerpts from a news report today:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen on playing two Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals during the series beginning November, while Cricket South Africa (CSA) had announced the schedule with three Tests, seven ODIs and two T20Is.

"We have not taken any final call on the tour as yet. Hopefully we will send an alternative itinerary over to CSA after tomorrow's meeting," BCCI's acting President Dalmiya said.

There is also a section in the BCCI which wants to curtail the series to protest the appointment of former International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Haroon Lorgat as the CSA's CEO.

7 ODIs really? Why not have 4 tests, 3 ODI/T20 games? What ever happened to 5 match test series. I say get rid of T20 at the country level. Leave it for club cricket and deal with ODI and test matches at international level.

Yes 7 ODIs is as silly as 2 test matches for the entire tour.

Unfortunately, these, I suspect, are financial decisions. You are lucky to get 3000 spectators for test match in South Africa these days.

Whats so disturbing and surprising in this news?
Isnt it very natural and obvious indeed?
Everyone in this world are controlled by the unit which is more powerful.
BCCI is to cricket as USA is to world, rich is to poor, aristocrat is to the commoners.
The more suitable question is what can be done?
I myself have no idea

Not surprising, but disturbing indeed.

I can understand India's domination in the ICC affairs.

I do not like BCCI meddling with CSA's internal affairs.

But robbie ,what option these less powerful boards have other than to vow down against the might of BCCI?
ECB can do it , CA to certain extent but every other boards depend on india's market for their revenue.
.
I guess the only solution is when cricket becomes a global game like football, tennis ,etc. And when cricket has market in China, USA,etc.
But with ICC's elite policy crickets never going to be a non-minor sport in the world let alone a global sport.
Test cricket is a closed shop. So few teams in so-called World cups(even rugby has more teams and expanding).
...
In these context indian market continues to dominate other sport unless miraculously China wins the world cup cricket then becomes a major sport over there and China cricket board counter balances BCCI.

With power comes the responsibility of taking care of the less powerful, not trampling upon.

I am gutted this morning. News came "after midnight" that JJ Cale passed away:

the saffers should tell the bcci to go f..k themselves.

its none of the Indians f..king business who the saffers appoint

in fact I think the Indians should be banned from international cricket for a year for this, teach them not to interfere in the affairs of another country

How has India become this powerful in cricket administration? Is it mainly because of huge revenues coming from TV coverage rights and advts?
