Is Cricket popular in UK?

My cousin recently got to london for his study.
Being a cricket fan, i couldnt not ask him how much cricket is played over there by kids esp since its home of cricket.
But his answer left me tad dissapointed .He observed the only thing the kid played over there was football and no glamour attached to cricketer as with footballer.
He felt cricket is seen played more in Kathmandu(nepal, not even a test team),then he's seen in london.
...
Is that true londoner?
How popular is cricket over there.
...
My question esp to those who have been in UK long enough.

I work in lords. People pay over 2000 pounds for the boxes per sit for one day. Dont think even football makes that much for one sit

In 2010 central contracts for England players ranged from £120,000 to £450,000. I'd imagine with the financial pressure of the IPL they've gone up from there.

I thought it was nearer the £450,000 mark too, Its good to see them being payed well.

English players crave honours over mega silly IPL cash

About $700K is not too shabby annual pay.

Not counting BD and Zim, I am guessing SL, Pak, NZ players are not paid well for representing their respective countries.

We frequently hear about SL players not getting paid on time.

I do not know how well Pak players are paid by their board.

It is my understanding that cricket is not a lucrative career sport in NZ. Sometime ago, I read an article about Ewen Chatfield driving a cab to make his living.

WI and SA boards have endured major financial problems in the recent years. I have no idea how their payrolls compare with those of Eng, Aus, and Ind.

<<English players crave honours over mega silly IPL cash>>

I don't believe "honour" is the reason for their absence.

Sprinkler all English players would love to have a go in the IPL: the county season stops them from doing that obviously. Don't quite know what your talking about

very few players have rejected ipl contracts and they are clarke and smith. Smith more due to injuries but Clarke more so because he thinks that it will be harm his Australian duties.
