Nigel Pearson will not get us promoted. I realise the season hasnt started yet but please hear me out...
Last season I believed we had the perfect man in place to get us promoted. He had/has a wealth of experience of the championship, had a bit of time and money to get his squad together and up until the New Year things were going along nicely. However, something happened and we had an abysmal run of form until the end of the season where we somehow sneaked into the play offs. We all know what happened then.
This season hasnt even started yet but i have no expectation of anything other than a mid table finish. FFP has made us signing players impossible and I dont think the players we have are good enough to get us promoted. They werent good enough last year and now we have a division including Wigan, QPR and Reading as well as teams that look far stronger than last year such as Forest and Ipswich.
Now onto the real problem- the manager. I think the losing run last year knocked his confidence more than we know. We are playing 3-5-2, 4-4-2 and last season we played 4-3-3. I dont believe he did this as a 'plan B' I believe he didnt know how to stop the rot. How are we going to line up this season? 3-5-2? Might help if we had some defenders.
I dont think he can man manage. Even the players he bought in I dont think would run through brick walls for him. He also seems to hold grudges against players whom he didnt buy. Beckford? check. SSL? check. He has no option but to play SSL but I dont believe he wants to play him nor SSL for him. FFP have scuppered any plans he had of shipping him out and its just a mess now.
He also wont admit hes wrong. He shelled out a million pounds on Jamie Vardy. Now without wanting to get at the lad he needs a season in League 1 to score some goals and get some confidence back. Does anyone really believe if Vardy wasnt a Pearson signing he would still be here? No chance.
A small thing perhaps but I also think his interviews are a disgrace. Fair enough Stringer may stir it a bit but thats one of the pitfalls of being a manager. Personally I want to hear my managers views and opinions and would prefer him not to treat fans as an irritant.
I was a Pearson man last season, i will always support my team and hope im wrong but i fear a season of mediocrity.
V...A...R....D...Why we wont be going up..

Pearson is relying on a squad of about 22 players to do the business of which he has fallen out with or alienated about 4-5 of them. That's a big ask.

This is what grates me - These pub talk fall outs between NP and players that are not backed up with hard facts or evidence just theories and conspiracies

TOTF you did not hear Wellens last night. Not many players will ever slag off their former managers so no you won't hear of it.
But NP has had refused to talk to Stringy end of last season Fact and the last time he was here tried to get him fired Fact.
So he does have previous whether you want to believe it is your choice

Top- we are all entitled to our opinions but if you believe Pearson hasn't had a fall out with a player then that's staggeringly naive

I don't believe he hasn't had a fall out with players. I suspect it happens everywhere.
What is naive is to assume that everytime a player leaves or is dropped its down to a personal fall out / grudge. Which seems to be an ongoing trend atm

Top of the Fox;
I'm glad somebody is keeping tabs on my appearances on this forum I do have other things to do y'know....like work, children, gardening, watching paint dry...oh AND HAVING A LIFE But actually, you're wrong - I did come on here several times during the 'good run' at the start of last season, including to post an article supporting Pearson when the press were saying he'd be replaced by Redknapp. Besides, forums are generally quieter when clubs are having a bit of success - fans are generally more active when there is something worth while to discuss rather than just back patting and complementing the team/manager.

I think Nev makes some valid points (first time for everything ) in that this football club and many sections of it's fanbase expect other sections to have a never-ending level of optimism and blind faith in a club that has;
- Owners that have run up a £100m debt in the club's name
- Owners who have barely said a word since 2011
- Have a hierachy of Whelan and Neville (both of whom are clueless on footballing issues) running the day-to-day side of the club
- A PR department that has been so slow during the pre-season that at one point I genuinely thought we'd sacked it
- didn't bother to tell it's fans about the Monaco friendly until 3 weeks before the match itself, then wonders why the attendance is so low
- A zero tolerance approach to the media
- A manager who was, allegedly, almost sacked and only kept on cos we couldn't afford to sack him
- Oh, and who is in the last year of his contract
- The same nucleus of a squad that creeped into the play offs with the lowest ever points total having self-destructed when in a prime position to be automatically promoted
- Has made one signing, a back up left back
- And finally, still has players like Jamie Vardy and Martyn Waghorn as integral parts of the match day squad
So please do excuse me if some of us are a little nonplussed, verging on apathetic, about the forthcoming season, and again if some of us are not screaming from the rooftops about our chances of success.

Interesting to review this thread in light of today's news!
Hope one or two don't mind being served up a slice of humble pie to eat.
Congratulations to the Foxes, I actually think we will stay up next season....now let's nail the Championship title.
