So ...

Do we write the season off if Carrick gets injured and is out for a month or so....

How can the management be so blind, without him we have noone to dictate our play. Clevz and Ando just seem to play reactionary football when together. They have no idea of defensive positioning and they also lack Carrick's height. Without Carrick, we have no chance against a good team.

There are some very good players still available in the market like Fellaini, Banega, McCarthy etc but we are still chasing Cesc!!!!!

I know that maybe Carrick will have the season of a lifetime and we will again win the league and CL, but we have no backup for him. Rest all the positions are covered but not the CM. If Fletch was fit and in his 09-10 form, he would have been an outstanding backup but i dont think he will ever recapture that form.

So what are your thoughts guys, suppose Carrick is injured and we are playing City/Chelsea what should the midfield be?

Maybe we should let Jones watch some Fabregas videos and train him that way, and then we could save millions

Nah, anyone that thinks Anderson is the future of the United midfield needs a lobotomy

Darren's okay but he's let himself down lately with some glaring errors of judgement.

Jones isn't a bad player but he obviously isn't as effective as ready made quality CM players. It's good to have him in the squad though.

I'm gonna go hang out with SE85. At least he doesn't worship the footballing equivalent of Adele.

Did I read some ninconpoop earlier today trying to justify Bale's brilliance by the size of his suggested transfer fee?

Football is a funny game sometimes and things turn out for the best in unusual circumstances. Remember we were in for Hirst and Shearer only to be disappointed and then we signed Cantona!

If Carrick were unavailable (hopefully he isn't) then United may have to rethink their tactics and formation as he is the one deep lying midfielder we have who can break up play and pass the ball.

Maybe I will get shot down for this but maybe some of the problems we seemingly have in midfield is that the whole team always seem on the back foot because of the fact Rio, Vidic and Carrick are playing and with all due respect they are not the quickest of players if we want to play a pressing game.

I am not a fan of Jones in Midfield but him between a back two of Rio/Vidic and Smalling/Evans (any combination bar Rio and Vidic) and Cleverley and Anderson in midfield may allow us to press on more in games. If the full backs are attacking then Jones can slip back into defence to make it a 3-5-2 formation. I have seen enough from Evans as well to suggest he would be comfortable bringing the ball out of defence.

Things are not as bad as some people are making out and I will have faith in the team even with no new signings. Hopefully the younger players will have the confidence of a title win and some of last season's underperformers surely cannot be that bad again.

All in all I am pretty positive as we do not need massive changes as that can disrupt the balance. One or two shrewd signings would be fine by me.

If all this fails of course we always have Giggs, Scholes and Phil Neville to fall back on as a midfield three!
