Europa League.

Great result for St Johnstone earlier Hope they can make it through to the next round now, listening in to the Motherwell game now and hopefully they will make it a clean sweep for Scottish football this week with 3 wins out of 3.

Come on you Well

Thieving wee rat so he is.

ffs bit harsh hmp.

Its a farce to rebrand it as the Scottish Professional Football League when the vast majority of clubs are part time.

Two leagues one of 16 & 20 providing the opportunity to expand to a top league of 18. Ask clubs to amalgamate and become full time or cast them adrift to a regionalisd league structure.

Scotland can sustain 36 full time clubs.

The worst thing is this negative attitude... the game is fine. But for a couple of dodgy owners, there'd have been little issue with the game in Scotland in recent years.

Hobo

I think a reduction in teams and a massive overhaul of how we coach and develop players would improve things greatly.

Scottish football has been in operation for over 100 odd years its faced far bigger economical challenges than it does today during that period. How many clubs have gone out of business? A handful would be the answer. This dreaded picture of armagedon that some would like you to believe just isnt true.

Positivity is the key to all success, every team should walk on to the park thinking they can win

Chu, you should have heard the voicemail I left him!!

Our standing at national and European level is plummeting. We struggle to entice players to our league. Bournemouth, Crawley etc can take players from any club in Scotland bar Celtic. Attendances alone are traditionally abysmal. Clubs afraid of losing do not promote homegrown potential.

I'm not really sure what people mean by a reduction in teams though. Amalgamations rarely work, and a bit of intra-city rivalry always spices things up.

If it's just a matter of having fewer teams in the league system, I've never really understood that idea. Currently we have 42 teams in the SPFL, but also only 42 teams in the pyramid. Germany have over 33,000 teams in their pyramid.
We'll be adding more teams to the pyramid over the coming years, but surely that's a good thing that will increase competition at the lower levels of the game?

33,000 That's more teams than fans we took to Hampden

I agree that amalgamations don't really work well, but there is a lot of teams around the Stirling/Falkirk area. When maybe just 2 would be enough, instead of the 5 or 6 they've got but I don't really know how you'd go about joining them up.

Well as soon as the pyramid opens up next season, you can wave good bye to one team from the Stirling area!

I think they're just a bit over-represented in the SPFL. The pyramid structure will probably balance things out and weaker clubs will end up in the regional leagues. There's still a place for these clubs, as every country in the world has small clubs.

Hope its not Stenhousemuir as my wee nephew plays for the boys team...

Most likely East Stirlingshire, with Stirling Albion not far behind if the Highland & Lowland teams prove to be up to it.
