Genuinely Scary Movies

After watching "The Conjuring" yesterday spending 500 bucks I felt absolutely robbed. For a movie that was hyped to be the scariest movie of the decade and IMDB rating of 8 it failed to make me jump out of my seat even once.
So I was thinking what are the horror movies which will totally scare the cräp out of you.
There will be a common suggestion about "The Exorcist" but I didn't find it remotely scary although I can understand why some people found it so shocking because the concepts that were touched were a real taboo 40 years ago.
So suggest some really scary movies. By scary I mean really scary ones and not mainstream cräP like Paranormal activity etc.

I found Ringu, Ju-on, (both Japanese versions),Shutter (Thai) fairly decent.
Any other flicks that will totally scare you?

Love horror films.

The only one that has genuinely scared me in recent year though is "the strangers". Such a great movie and truly does scare me due to the fact it's a true story.

it's you using your imagination to what the evil was

This, to me, is what makes a good horror film... Not the amount of things that make me jump out of my seat (usually just loud sound effects and cheap tricks).

I want something that makes my skin crawl with dread, while i'm watching it and afterwards too.

That is why i massively rate films like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity.... Both of which had me dreading the night scenes and praying for a longer day scene in between.

The original "The Haunting" is classic for that sense of dread. As is a film called "The Changeling".

When I was about 6 or 7 I watched An American Werewolf in London. Absolutely traumatised me it did. Even now I really struggle to watch any films with werewolves in it.

You want scary... Try Steven Seagal 2000-2011.
I still have nightmares.

Wow Texas Chainsaw Massacre was indeed fictional despite popular belief... Guess I've been hearing myths out here the whole time.

Either way, that movie was still wayyy to gory for me. I've got a pretty weak stomach for that kind of stuff I suppose.

I cannot possibly imagine The Ring being any scarier than it is, and the original one is even scarier than that? Good god...

most all of the gore in TCM is imagined. It's not actually shown on screen.

so if you saw too much gore, look in the mirror for the culprit

that's partly what makes it such a great film.
