Evening all.
Just wanted to gauge some opinions on how seriously we should take this competition next season.
I personally think AVB will take it seriously, it seems to be a competition he rates highly, especially having won it before. Whether this is right or wrong though is up for debate.
Firstly, its a question of prioritising a cup competition which we could well win over league position. Which is more important? There's pros and cons to both, we all know them and we're all going to have our own opinions on whether 4th place or a European Trophy is more valuable.
I really don't want to sound greedy here because I know there are teams who would embrace being in it, but thinking back to last season, there were times I just wished we could pull ourselves out. The group stage was painful to watch, slow, boring, sure you could say the Lyon and Inter home games were brilliant, but I always felt we weren't far from being knocked out and any effort put into the competition would prove to be wasted.
Maybe we're more equipped to handle it this year? It does provide playing time to people who won't be regulars in the league (if utilised properly!) but look at our friendlies so far, don't exactly fill me with confidence?
Whatever happens, I just hope we get the balance right.

Our loved our little run last season and went made when Dembele scored that last minute goal v Lyon but peole are right, we were generally woeful in last years competition and did bloody well to make the quarter finals. I was gutted we went out to Basel because we didn't deserve to.

Trouble is mate, when anything other than more or less full strength Spurs team are put out, the team normally gets stuffed. For some reason the squad players never seem to produce the goods.

I want us to rotate our PL team for the Europa, we are assembling a very strong squad so this should not be a problem. Hopefully we can progress to the later stages by playing squad players, which will not affect our PL performances.

sandy, i know mate.......it's probably because our former squad players are very poor. This season will be different though because the likes of Defoe, Adebayor and Parker etc will be subs a lot of time so are excellent players as squad men. Where as players like Soldado and Paulinho will be our main men in the 1st team

use the squad through the group, and if we qualify for the knockouts then go all out to win it
Probably won`t get out of the group, our squad players never put it in when they all play together, very, very average.

Apart from the manager learning to utilise his squad well over a season (a high total number of games) , the only other reason other than winning the thing is to avoid being seeded in pot 4 if you reach the CL.
Like poor old <Citeh> .
70 odd pts yet they are still seeded in pot 3 and face possibly another "group of death" .
