Granted the performance against Morecambe was below par, but this is a cup competition and no matter what cup it is, it produces shock results. Just look at some of the others tonight.
We have all got to be more patient. Remember this is virtually a new team that KJ is putting together. I have the confidence in these players and that it will get better as the season progresses. It wouldn't surprise me if we are mid table around Xmas time. But I still believe that it will be the latter part of the season when this squad of players gels together and makes a concerted effort for promotion. It may be via the play offs. But even if we don't go up this season, it's not the end of the world.
There are still too many on here that think it's our divine right to be in a higher league.
Watching tonights game was difficult, but the best team won on the night, plain and simple.
We go into the weekend with a match against Gillingham. There will be changes, I'm sure. I thought the defense played well tonight and there were glimpses from both Ismail and Forde as to what to expect as the season goes on.
Defensively I thought both Batth and Ebanks-Landell were commanding and I can't see us conceding many goals this season.
Our problem is the lack of sustained creativity from midfield. Again, there were glimpses but not enough for either of our forwards to get on to the end of.
Ismail had great effort that hit the bar, but overall their keeper didn't have much trouble. But to be fair, neither did Ikeme.
The decider was a great free kick from their player.
As DJ stated on another thread, a win would be nice but it may be a blessing in disguise if we did go out of a competition that most clubs don't take too seriously.
I think KJ will see from tonight's performance the need to strengthen our midfield. Not sure that Foley will keep his place. Probably the worst player for us tonight.
It's really hard to assess both Cassidy and Griffiths on tonights performance, when they're not getting the service they should be getting. Long high balls through the middle are not the answer.
Roll on Saturday and I'm sure we'll all be feeling a darn sight better at 5pm GMT.
Up the Wolves.
Will everyone calm down

Would be interesting to see how young micks first choice ''young and hungry'' side was?

Well well well, so after some research it turns out the magician that is Mick Mccarthy fielded a side that was on average 23 years old..........our first 11 last saturday was 23.8?!?!?!
Shock horror, sits back and waits for everyone to lay into Mccarthy for not having a clue by playing youngsters.

Cinci, I don't know why you and Wolfie have to keep on bringing up McCarthy. He's gone, and it's time to move on.
There's little doubt in my mind that KJ is aware he needs to at least emulate the success of Mick McCarthy, before fans are satisfied, but he is his own man, and will do it his own way. Of course he'll be judged against the man who's been steering Ipswich up the Championship table while we've sacked another couple of trialist managers, and that's human nature. Put the rose coloured specs of nostalgia away, and dream of what is to come.

??? You say you don't know why he is brought up and then list the exact reasons.........Mick is rightly the benchmark isn't he?
Just find it ironic that we are screwed for fielding a side which is actually older than one which got promotion to the premier league.

That was an exciting year, I'll agree. You're making me all nostalgic.

Irrespective of the progress we've made since MM was relieved of his duties, I still hanker for those days secretly.

They will come back Bute, no worries about that, just when will be the question.

Nostalgia's not what it used to be, anyway...
