Liverpool kept up their 100% winning record in pre-season on Wednesday night as they comfortably beat Valerenga, although they did concede their first goal.
Liverpool had a number of chances to take the lead before they finally did, with Iago Aspas missing most of the chances, although he wasn't helped by goalkeeper Gudmund Taksal Kongshavn having the game of his life. It was another Aspas effort that ultimately led to the opening goal, after his effort came back off the crossbar and was only half cleared by the Valerenga defence. It fell to Luis Alberto who volleyed it in to the far corner with the outside of his left foot.
But four minutes later, the Reds conceded their first goal of pre-season from a corner kick when Giancarlo Gonzalez headed in.
Just a minute before half time, Aspas finally got his name on the scoresheet after some good work by Stewart Downing on the right resulted in him pulling it back for Aspas to tap in a simple finish.
At the break, 10 changes were made with only Andre Wisdom remaining on the pitch for the rest of the match. The third goal came nine minutes into the half, when a corner kick for Liverpool was bundled in off the shoulder of Martin Kelly.
Liverpool had more chances to wrap it up with Fabio Borini unlucky not to score with some of his efforts, one of which hit the crossbar. But in the first minute of injury time, Oussama Assaidi set up Raheem Sterling with a clever flick to slot it into the bottom left corner.
Liverpool travel to Dublin at the weekend to take on Celtic, before they finally get their season underway at home to Stoke City a week on Saturday in what will be the curtain-raiser of the Premier League season.

Interesting. We also beat them 4-1 on 6 August 1987. We certainly like beating Valerenga 4-1 in the first week of August.

We were very good today, only thing missing was more goals.
Yes the opposition are pretty poor, but we really should have won about 10-1.

And of course in 2008 we nearly won it. You're right!
