Neville said: "Manchester United cannot sell Wayne Rooney to Chelsea Football Club - unless they bring in a major, major signing like Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo.
"You have absolute gold in Rooney, someone who is proven over six, seven, eight years; who delivers season in, season out; and is one of the top goals and assists man in the league consistently - even last season when he wasn't at his strongest.
"He will work his backside off and never drop his level in training and the importance of Rooney [is huge]; he is a vital player, a champion player and someone that wins you the league.
"He is the guy who in the middle of October when you are four points behind in the league, going to Chelsea and have Arsenal the week after, sits in front of his midfield two, works his backside off, gets up the pitch, gets back, sets up goals and digs in.
"Don't underestimate the value of Rooney to Manchester United's success over the last eight years and the way he is liked amongst his team-mates.
"Manchester United do not need to sell him for the money and I don't think they will sell him at all - and if they do, not until they bring in a decent replacement."
Well said Red Nev!!!!!!!

So, SAF is to blame? Rooney never said anything to the media about leaving, SAF did.
----------------------
Will never ever get that
We won't be selling him but just to let you all know, Roo asked for a transfer
Why oh why Fergie. Did you really end up that bitter with our Wayne?
--------------------------
I personally thought it was a master stroke from SAF. If it had come out that Rooney wanted to leave after Moyes had taken over we would have had a load of rubbish about how he didn't want to play under Moyes and questioning whether Moyes was big enough for the job. This way SAF let it be known that Rooney wanted away before Moyes was in place, which served to take the pressure off the new manager.

I think that's utter bollox personally sorry.
We all know what happened v Madrid etc and it would have been quite simple for the club, and Rooney for that matter, to have stated that Roo had asked to leave earlier but the club did not want to cloud Sir Alex's retirement, which in part, it did.
Fergie retired and threw a custard pie at Rooney on the way out
Rooney needs to stay because, as someone said so eloquently on the radio last night, United, at the moment, are like a Supermodel that can't get a date

Beats me, didnt you offer 30m for Fabregas? How could he possibly worth roughly the same as what he went to Barcelona for?

No need to apologise, everyone is welcome to their opinion.
Irrespective of what the club may have said, there would have been the question as to whether the desire to leave was prompted by the fact he did not want to play for Moyes. This way SAF made it clear for everyone that Rooney already had his eye on the exit door.
