in 2004 Arsenal had just finished the league season unbeaten. Mourinho in his first season dethroned the invincibles and won the league.

Weren't Chelsea themselves coming off the back of their best league finish in about half a century though?

To be fair it was United beating them 2-0 and ending their unbeaten run which knocked Arsenal well and truly off the rails. They were a great side but the way they reacted to that setback and never won the title again would suggest that they weren't THAT great a side.

Bound to be biased Patriarch, but winning a Double in 2002 ( not losing away in the league and I think scoring in every game) and going unbeaten in the League 2 seasons later indicates a great side to me.
