I appreciate it is a bit late but I am going to give my review of the game the other day, I've seen other people's opinions and so am throwing another into the mix as mine is different and might give some people a better idea of what is going on. As a football manager genius I feel adequately qualified

Team Performance

As a team we absolutely dominated an outfit which hardly even looked professional, given so much time on the ball Gillingham didn't even attempt to close us down in our half and after giving away an early lead I predicted 6 goals early on, I actually think we did badly not to achieve this however we did have some bad luck but also bad decision making at time, I lost count of the number of times first half Griffiths would pull away into a left channel and Evans would play the ball right rather than into Griffiths feet or between full back and centre half to run onto I know some on here bigged Evans up but a better playmaker would of seen that pass.

Ikeme - Sat and spoke to this bloke and so I have a bit of a soft spot for him, one point in the second half where he charged out to punch a ball away and clattered his face into the back of their strikers head, must of hurt and I was sat right behind him but he didn't even get treatment, a much tougher cookie than Wayne in my opinion, not a lot to do though so hard to judge him.

This is very late

I'd go along with most of that but for me Evans and Griffiths were our best two players so I don't share your reservations about either of them.

Fantastic day and, although Gillingham may be one of the worst teams we face this season, confirmation that while we have our best XI on the pitch we can dominate this division.

I still think we need more strength in depth especially if we lose Sako and or Doyle but nothing but positives from yesterday.

Ikeme – 7 Very little to do, did what he needed to well and decent distribution.

Doherty - 7 Solid defending decent going forward.

Batth – 8 Forming a good partnership with Stearman and looked confident throughout.

Stearman – 7 More than equipped to compete at this level.

Ricketts - 7 Solid defending and thought he might get a nose bleed pushing forward at times.

Ismail - 7 Has all the tools to do well in this league but needs to learn when to give the ball.

Davis – 9 I may be being over generous but, having not rated him in the past, I’m going to give him MOTM for his overall play. Tackled well, distributed well, good positional sense. Excellent.

Evans – 8 How did a moron like Saunders turn up a player like this? With Davis, Griffiths & Doyle one of our best players today.

Sako - 7 You only need to beat a player once. You don’t get extra points based on the number of stepovers. If his brain ever catches up with his feet he’ll be a top, top player.

Doyle – 8 Energy, commitment, great movement. If we hold onto him he will be a big part of our promotion this season.

Griffifths - 9 Can’t remember a better home debut in recent years. His goal was brilliantly taken although having seen the highlights now a bit more venom in the shot wouldn’t have gone amiss

Well, I for one don't believe this appraisal Bigyam. You have made the players sound human and fallible, whereas I was led to believe that they were the future of England, Scotland, Wales etc... that they were going to dominate the English game for years ahead and that when we sold them for billions of pounds, Wolves would be the richest club in history!

Of course I exaggerate, just as the poster who described the win against Gillingham and the team performance, the best for 5 years exaggerated.

Wolves are not the finished article, as the poster intimates. The players are talented, but young and inexperienced and will make mistakes. Hopefully, they will learn quickly and become good players. It would appear that there is a great deal of talent within the squad, however it needs to be nutured properly. I trust that KJ and the team are the right people to do this!

Man Utd had the same criticisms and look at them now.

Nice one tam

Cyp, i would love to know a game we have dominated in such a manner in recent years?

posted on 14/8/13

I kind of agree with you Cyp and the younger players will not be ones we should rely on playing well week in week out for 40 odd games. That's why we will need a decent squad of at least 20 over the season to be successful, and that will mean more additions. KJ will I am sure also reflect that the Morecambe game was when where he had too many youngsters out there at one time, whereas in the Gillingham game the balance between youth and experience was about right

Undoubtedly the kids will have poor games, thats football, coming out of those lulls will be the key.

4 or 5 signings was the number thrown about, McDonald would be number two i assume as Torras cannot be counted can he?
