Mugged good and proper

I've been mugged. You've been mugged. We've been the willing sheep led to the slaughter when the Man City-supporting Gazidis promised an eye-watering war chest to boost the Arsenal ranks this summer.

Wenger joined in and even now has the cheek to say the club will not indulge in a supermarket trolley dash to sign players at the eleventh hour.

All our so called "targets" have gone elsewhere. Were they even targets in the first place?

Sure the club has unloaded a shed-load of players - thereby freeing-up the wages bill - but the first team squad is now as thin as a t*rts draws.

There is no hope in hell of the current squad being capable of challenging for the Milk Cup - or whatever it's called - let alone the big important stuff.

I, for one, feel hideously let down by a club I've supported since the 1960s and which purports to be one of the "big guns" in Eurpore. Obviously not. AND now they've signed me up for something called digital membership on Arsenal.com. Why? So I can listen to yet more inane rubbish from Wenger?

Rant over.

I've supported the club a long time too, but never in my time as a fan have they ever purported to be one of the big guns in 'Eurpore'.

Where did you hear this?

i honestly can't think of anyone we could sign that could really improve us. Gustavo & Surez/Higuian would have been perfect.

Even Capoue would have been good and for only 9Mil but hes gone to spurs. we are an embarrassment and the laughing stock of the PL.

you missed out on Downing too...

Who threw that?!!!

The only reason your a laughing stock is you keep talking

Whether its the board sneering at other clubs due to their 'financial strength and business model' Gazidis telling everyone they will do business or Wenger constantly telling everyone how they will compete....mental strength...mental strength and then the fans lapping up the nonsense despite years and years of the same 'talk' and giving it the big one every time there is a tenuous link with a player or a ridiculous bid for another (Luis)

All the club and it's fans do is talk! If they kept quiet and got on with their respective jobs things would be different.

If we have looked at the Arsenal team 5 years ago even we'd have said that to challenge for the Title & CL there are issues with the spine of the side...GK, CB, DM and lethal striker.....the truth is nothing has changed, not a thing!

Roll on the next 5 years...

IMO it’s not that we have missed out on players it is the length of time that has gone without additions being added.

The (considerable) resource has been available and targets would already have been identified last season. It therefore would have been expected (and anticipated) that our business would have been concluded early.

The fact that we are on the eve of the new season with no significant business done is tantamount to gross mismanagement.

The truth is there are many people on the Arsenal payroll been paid a lot of money to identify transfer targets

The lack of additions so far into the window when they are clearly needed shows a severe lack of planning.

For the club (which is what will happen) to come out now when they make a couple of signings and say how they have been tracking them for a long time, first choice targets etc etc will be insulting to the fans. But the truth is that is exactly what will happen!

Arsenal waste huge money....on Wenger's ridiculous salary right down to the thousands per week wasted on the likes of Bendtner.

I'd get rid of the scouting team to start with as Wenger clearly has no use for them. Also the medical staff & physiotherapists....why so many injuries / issues with players...luck? Don't think so!

It's all well and good Wenger saying he's still 18 days or whatever left to sign players and he may well go out and sign a few players, even a few quality ones at that but the season starts tomorrow! And more importantly you've a tough, and ridiculously important CL qualifier during the week with, currently, a very tight squad and a couple of injuries to boot.

If you'd done the business early the new lads would be comfortable with the squad and would have played pre season games, if you get knocked out of the CL qualifier because of the current squad coudl nto deal with the games, or you get morre injuries Wenger will have lost his comfort blanket of CL football and you will be in a mess for the season

Thats always the theory but doesn't always work in practice.

Our panic buys of Arteta, Mertesacker and Benayoun had more of a positive impact than Podlski and Giroud.

The repercussions of a poor transfer window could be massive. Lets say you buy nobody of note before the window closes, what will your existing players think? Will the likes of Cazorla, Podolski, Walcott, Kocielny want out? The likes of RVP and Nasri left because you couldn't meet their ambitions. Your manager and board seem to have learnt nothing from recent history.

The strangest thing is that you haven't bought anyone. Forget the "big" signing. You haven't one player that strengthens your squad. Why isn't Wenger buying the cheaper players - The £5-10m squad players?

There can be two reasons. Wenger is saving the money for 2/3 big signings. You may expect a £50m bid for Suarez or someone else. The second could be he is going to go at the end of the season in which case why store more £5m dross headache for another manager?

Now the £40m bid for Suarez suggests the former rather than the latter but we shall see.
