The reason they don't sign is?

Its took a while to log on to this site but I have finally managed, during the past few weeks I have read endless posts RE: unsuccessfull bids for forward positioned players.
Obviously bids for ALF were turned down and Mellor is a greedy lad but it's the O'grady and Roberts that puzzled me, did we actually get to talk to these players and if so did they turn us down. What I suppose I am saying is do you feel Megson is well liked as a manager within the game or will his no nonsence approach put off potential signings?

Hi Wal, if it is Meggo's reputation that scares people off then we don't want them anyway. Apparently, on Saturday the team looked fit, hungry and up for it. If a player wants to play, but not train hard, be fit and play to the team system then **** em.

Hard graft and teamwork. Worked for Big Jack and it's working for Meggo. Any lazy bar-steward just looking for a comfortable ride can take a hike. If a player's worth his salt and wants to play for a club with our history, potential, ground and fan-base, then roll your sleeves up and climb on board......it'll be beneficial for both parties! If your club or agent won't let you come by insisting on a huge, unrealistic fee, then do what Meggo says.....go balistic and let them know how you feel

Agree with much of the above - I don't think we are unattractive now that MM is in charge (although I believe he has a few legal dealings to sort out and at least one person has said these are why he may be unwilling to go the extra mile with money - he's not just pumping cash in because a) it usually ends in tears and b) he's having to look after his money for potential future legal reasons).

Bottom line is that very few very good players have moved into L1 clubs. Yes, good L1 players have moved up a level, but realistically any L1 club is struggling to get the best players from other L1 clubs (Semedo is an exception and we did well to get him, IMO) and it's a risk taking L2 players for anything more than £200k cos if we stay in this league we just don't get that money back, Champ players will not drop down a level now because of the wage cut (that may change as the transfer window begins to close).

I'm sure we'll see movement before the window shuts - possibly with the released Championship players who haven't found a club and face a season in L1 versus a season unemployed. Given that by then the season will be six games old, a point of discussion - should the transfer window shut end of August, or now as the season starts so all teams begin the season with a settled squad?

Agents trueblue thats the main issue. The problem is they think MM is there ticket to the gravy train and put unrealistic stupid prices on players. To any players out there who want to join what is going to become an unstoppable rocket let your agents know. The money might not be good now but it will be where MM wants to take us.
