If we had bought Suarez, or Rooney, or Higuain, or whoever - would the result yesterday have really been that much different?
We were all confident before that our defence was reasonably solid with Woj, Gibbs, Kos, Merte and Sagna and that we only really needed cover for them. No one expected them to have such a mare (or for Gibbo to get injured as quick as he did!)
We were all saying how much we needed to improve our attacking threat. But having Suarez yesterday would not have prevented Woj bringing down Agbonlahor, Higuain or Rooney wouldn't have stopped him winning the second penalty either.
To be honest, we had close to a full strength first XI yesterday based on last season, with the exception of Arteta. Most of us would have confidently expected a midfield Rambo, Wilshere and Rosicky to run riot vs Villa. Even if we had bought Gustavo I doubt he would have immediately started in the first team squad, he would more likely have been slowly introduced IMO.
Let's not overreact - yesterday's result was a surprise, a shambles and has topped off a frustrating summer so far. But our current first XI is still a strong team, we've only dropped 3 points and the result will serve to give the board and Wenger a kick up the back side.
Slight Overreaction Perhaps?

There is a tremendous amount of delusion about how good some of these players are
They needed to improve the first eleven with more than one striker.
The biggest question mark is why they can't identify other players to improve the squad. Even the top teams improve their squads overall as well as make a marque signing if available.
The club should have a list of 10 targets in each position as potentials. Wenger seems to be suggesting if they identify ways to improve the squad
He's a vastly experienced manager on £7 million a year, he should know 50 players around the world that would improve the team and squad
He should also realise the market is the market, its driven by its consumers (the clubs) and its product (the players) It's not for Arsenal to decide what the market should be....it is what it is. Pay up or shut up really...
Does Wenger arrogantly feel that because it's Arsenal clubs & players should demand less to come and play for the club?

Nope.
I have thought Chesney and Mertseacker are awful players for two years now.

My worry is this same team finished the end of last season emphatically, after a strong pre-season we collapse in the first PL game. What is the issue here, can wenger not drill the consistency into his team, did lack of signings upset the dressing room?

how can anyone defend yesterday, it was a complete joke, a weak arsenal team got beat by villa, no players bought in the summer.......and yes if we had suarez or higuain im sure we would of been better, not just because of them as players but the atmosphere and crowd would have been much more positive, it really makes a difference

Can't agree with you there. Chesney, you could argue, is not good enough to be our number one, but Mertesacker has been pure class for us for a year or so now.

even if we had bought Suarez he is still banned for 6 games so he wouldn't have made a difference yesterday.

I do think Wenger runs the team from a 'logical' point of view but totally missed the emotional/psychological side of the game.
One big signing would have lifted the crowd massively and we would have all been behind the team. Regardless of how well that one new signing would have played, the whole team would have played much better from the positive energy coming from the crowd.
Wenger still has time to turn this negative into a positive and get some good players in that we're all clammering for and this season can still be a good one

sadly, I think being intelligent can retract from these points, I think wenger examines everything to the point of taking the life out of it. ferguson understood this, that's why he achieved what he did, its not all about stats, its about human beings also.

That's the point it's not only Suarez we need, had we got all the players required which includes defence minded midfielders and even a defender somewhere would have solved the issue. The midfield was lightweight and there's 4 or 5 signings that I've certainly been crying out for, people have just settled for 1 or 2. If activity was properly done we wouldn't haven't lost!

Actually all yesterday proves is that our current first 11 is average. A good run at the end of last season (beating various noddy teams we were expected to beat) seems to have clouded peoples judgement.
