Random important question time

Right, see the old style wars/ battles that are depicted in films such as Braveheart or Troy, where both sides start at opposite ends of a field or something and then they sprint at each other and start scrapping in the middle....is that what actually happened? Surely at least one side realised that they could conserve energy and casually walk in to the battle...sprinting in to battle with a variety of weapons would surely take the puff out you before you've even started!

The longer you took to reach the opposition the more likely you were to cop an arrow or a thrown spear/rock/dart etc, hence the running.

Valid point but I'm still not convinced
