Wigan v Forest

Wigan 2 Boro 2 - another narrow escape!

Wigan, playing with two forwards, started well, and scored from a penalty. Boro came more and more into the game, with Wigan helpless to stop them. And on the stroke of half-time, Wigan mistakes let them equalize.

Again, Coyle made early substitutions and Gomez and Espinoza turned the game round. Just as Wigan gained control, errors at the back presented Boro with a second goal.

Wigan escaped with a point after scoring another goal direct from a free kick, this time a powerful shot by Gomez.

Forest, now top of the table, should offer a sterner test. Carson has had lots of action, and is playing well, but Perch in defence won as many headers as Holt in attack. Coyle will have to rethink his defence, midfield and attack.

Going to be tough.

I'd settle for an away point but hope we go for the win like we did against Watford last week.

What bad luck! Holt was injured and so Wigan played without a winger too.

Instead of booting the ball in the general direction of Holt, Wigan had to play through midfield to link up with a mobile forward. At last, they looked like a football team!

Nottingham Forest provided good opposition in a first half of attractive attacking football. The second half couldn't match it, but Wigan's defence - greatly improved by Beausejour and Rogne - managed to stop Forest from scoring again.
