Andros Townsend

THIS IS A BALE FREE ZONE

I think we’ll all agree that Andros has made an excellent start to the season and is really beginning to show us what he can do. I have personally always had faith in Andros and was quite vocal that it was a bad decision to loan him out last season.

What are everyone else’s thoughts on it? Do you think it’s fair to suggest that loaning him out harmed our challenge to finish 4th or do you think the loan deal has helped the player and we should in fact be praising the decision to loan him out, giving him a chance to gain first team Premiership experience?

He's not just had two good games, he's had a whole good 2nd half of last season too.

I've always had high hopes for Townsend ever since hearing good things about him at Youth level and watched him have a stormer v Charlton in the cup in an otherwise turgid team display and score a fantastic goal. Rave reviews from his loans at Orient and Yeovil and my pals loved him at Millwall too.

He should really have been integrated in to the side at the start of last season, given Europa league games and cups.

How Chronic can call England "shyyyyte" when he claims he never watches the internationals, i'll never know.

Jay,

As for Townsend getting a call up after the first few games, this is all Roy has to go on right now, because he cant rely on form from back in May time.

Its certainly more respectable than including Zaha because of how he played in United's pre-season friendlies - that was a shocking reason if ever i heard one.

I can't honestly say I saw much of him last season. I still think it can both be deserved, and slightly premature to include him. I guess the only way we'll find out is to see how he does in an England shirt.

Good thing Terry doesn't play for England anymore

Good point.

And using JT is a kop-out anyway. There are many top professionals in that England squad who Townsend (& others) could benefit from being around.

Not with Hart still there, and Rooney, Chronic.

When Baines signs for United, he'll likely start ahead of Cole

Missed this comment. I completely agree.

Zaha & Ox should be no where near the England team yet. Granted, Ox looked good with Rooney in the game before last. But I still don't think either have done enough, if anything to deserve a call up.

PS. i didnt mean my comment to sound tít-for-tat by the way, i just found that reason very odd.

I didn't take it as such don't worry It was a terrible reason to include him, and had he not signed for United and was still at Palace he wouldn't have got a look in.

Roy's selection methods have at times been bizarre, but I guess I'd rather him be risking the youth players than relying on the 'Golden Generation'
