why did they wait for his buyout clause to expire?

Woodward does seem to have struggled this summer, can't know the exact ins and outs of what happened and we have had problems with getting players in in the past but it does look like he has missed up a bit...
The only thing I don't understand is why they just didn't go for Fellaini's clause like 2 months ago...
I said at the start of the summer I would be happy with just 1 CM so as long as we do bring in Fellaini I will be quite happy with that (although wondering why it wasn't done 2 months ago)
I am just going to hide out here for a bit whilst the entire United board dives into a deep depression hopefully none of the rest of them venture out...

There are some real shenanigans surrounding the herrera deal, talk of fraud on the bbc site, some shady guys in dark suits with briefcases purporting to be part of the deal apparently. Nothing to do with utd.

Fellaini will do a job for united.
If you ask me they miss a midfield enforcer, they were cack at the weekend against us because their midfield was non existant.. Sticking Carrick and Fellaini in the middle would actually massively improve their squad.
I agree Fellaini himself is over-rated but title winning squads have to be greater than the sum of their parts..

IRU I think half the reason we were cack was some of the personal missing.... Nani, Kagawa and Rooney would have given us that creative spark...
Valencia (been saying this on the United board for a while now) just offers us absolutely nothing attacking wise.... absolutely nothing!
Giggs should never start a big game (in fairness I think this was because we had players out injured or lacking match fitness)
Would be quite happy with Fellaini a definite physical presence in our midfield.

Nani played but yeah I agree the midfield lost the game for United. Our midfield trio were much better.

Nani did come on as a sub... probably had our best shot of the match!
Though there was a very late RVP chance I missed....
Think he had 20 something minutes to do something, saying that he did more than Valencia did on the right (though he also didn't have much time there due to the Jones injury)
In terms of limiting our chances (which is all you needed with the lead) your midfield and team in general did well, I think we actually had the better of the game but you don't get any points for that.

Giggs was awful, he should have retired a great, with his impressive record of scoring in every premier league season he played.
Judging by sundays performance he wont keep that stat up this year, and its a shame to see him as a shadow of the man he was..
He should have retired the same time scholes did (First time) and they should have both remained retired, that would have given fergie two seasons to address your midfield, which has never really been strong since keane retired In my opinion.
Moyes is moyes, and he is only capable of playing one way, and it wont be pretty for you, but fellaini actually fills a big hole. When you bring Kagawa and rooney back in to the starting 11, with rvp and im guessing Nani as your front 4 there is quite a bit of invention. Fellaini and carrick sat behind them will do a good job of protecting the back four and getting the ball back up field quickly.
If you think of those players as the front 6, Before you got fellaini cleverly was the weakest link, by far. meaning moyes (while having a crap window) has adressed your most glaring problem..
Unlike arsenal who have added another attacker and have not adressed their lack of a midfield general or lack of defenders.. Buying fellaini and sakho would have had more of an effect on their season than buying ozil who will be competing with wilshere/ramsey/cazorla/podolski etc for the attacking midfield spots.
While ozil is a great player, he is in no way what they needed.. those arsenal fans are easily pleased.

Yeah I am quite happy with Fellaini, very unlikely to win the world player of the year but something we have desperately needed for a while!
I agree on Giggs as well, part of me thinks he is a useful back up player but if we didn't have him we would be able to give an exciting young player more game time. I am not usually much of a whiner but it really has gone on too long now. He better retire at the end of the season..
