Rooney to blame?

I have seen all the hysteria and the finger pointing going on at Moyes and Woodward.

I don't necessarily excuse these two with the way the transfer window has gone, but I do feel the Rooney saga has had a big say in our dealings and I think he needs to shoulder some of (imo a large part) the blame.

I am sure those who think the sun shines out of his nether regions will disagree, and I am not saying he is craaap or anything.

Quite simply Mourinho has said the whole ''when someone tells someone ..'' pretty much indicating that rooney telling (maybe Cole) or his agents people at CFC that he wants to go there. Yes UTD said ''no way'' but as we know in the end if enough effort was made it would have happened and I think the derisory bid may have more to do with wazzas change of mind than his love for UTD

Had rooney gone I think we would have had more of a say in transfers, and importantly type of transfer. I think possibly a big transfer for fabregas as the money would have been there. Even ozil with his £5m a year would have been feasible and cheaper than rooney.

Had rooney been happy to stay early on I reckon we would have done our usual and bought a player who would have been a ''potential''

Either way I think the finger of blame should include rooney and to a greater extent than the others. thoughts

Perhaps Rooney is responsible for the crisis in Syria too

to be fair macca it is a valid question.

Even you ( who was adamant Rooney shouldnt be sold) must admit too much time was probably spent behind the scenes sorting this out.

this time could have been used better elsewhere.

I don't buy into the whole ''wont sell to so and so'' tbh. Yes people like to argue it and maybe a club like cfc with Roman at the helm could possibly let the money stagnate, generally though I cant see a business taking a hit as big as what we pay rooney

I agree the silence was deafening re clubs in for him and I do think if a player had any pride the bid that did come in would have been a kick in the teeth

I do think the situation impacted on the whole transfer window though. I cannot believe a club can lose a rooney or even suarez and not replace with similar

What's happening with Coentrao and did they find who were these 'imposers' who went to make a deal in Bilbao??

well if the news is anything to go by he covered more column inches than Syria, to suggest something so high profile didn't impact the club when it was national news is naïve mate

The defence for rooney gets irrational and I have tried to stay out to a degree. I don't rate the fella as highly as some do and I personally think he is detrimental to the team setup. but that isn't the issue here

I think if rooney had gone we would have tried harder for someone with a profile similar, so fabregas. The money would have been available and wages covered. of course we may not have got him butyou see the point

rooney staying means fallaini is a decent signing

I completely agree with the above.

However, Roo is not to blame for our incompetent transfer dealings.

Also will it have an effect on future windows and our future targets?

I believe it will. We bid 16m for Fellaini and then panicked at the last minute and paid a ridiculous 27.5m...The lesson learned for other clubs is to drag out the negotiations until the last day so that United will panic and pay another 10m on top of our original offer.

Yes

When the news came through Roo had zero intention of putting in a transfer request, The Sun reported it about 3 pages from the back in a column an inch wide and 4 inches long. I remember smiling about it considering the utter bollox they had been splashing all over their back pages for months

This is interesting.Everyone knows how little time i have for the balding ginger but Rooney is blameless here.

The hierarchy was utterly incompetent.
