Why don't England produce AMFs?

With Rooney out for the England games, i was racking my brain to think of any English AMFs to take the #10 role. I know Young and Cleverley have both played that role, but neither look particularly comfortable and are certainly not what you would consider playmakers. The Ox seems to favour playing centrally, but, again, doesn't seem like a playmaker when he moves into the middle.

Of the younger options, the only name that springs to mind who can really play that role is Ravel Morrison, and he is some way off proving himself at such a level.

What about in the U21s, are there any prospects? Other clubs reserves?

You've obviously misread everything i've said on here. YOU were the one saying that Arteta would come back and take Wilshere's place. All i've said and you can go back and read my posts is that Wilshere will be the first name on the teamsheet when fully fit in that midfield.

I said (and again, you can go back and read) that it will be between Arteta and Ramsey as to who partners Wilshere in the '2' if Arsenal play that way which I think they will with a front four of Cazorla, Ozil, Walcott and Giroud.

"This is basically what I've been trying to say to Rob because he's saying that Wilshere would compete for a place with Arteta. Which is complete bôllocks",

No, Wilshere would compete with Ramsey surely. There will be games they can go more attacking and play the two of them, or as I said if they play Cazorla, but I don't think that will be Wengers preferred set up.

It'll be a shame if Ramsey misses out though, I've always rated him, just taken a long time to get over his broken leg. He could be brilliant.

Sorry, my mistake. But Arteta is still more important than Wilshere and I stand by that. Has been for two seasons.

AFC, another myth. Wilshere wasn't on par with them at all. He was YOUR best player but Barca made you look like fools in that game.

I'm a big fan of Wilshere but you guys overrate that performance so bad.

Wilshere dominating Xavi and Iniesta is almost up there with Gerrard singlehandedly winning Liverpool the CL as the biggest myth in football.

Scholes was an attacking midfielder... he only moved deeper late in his career.

Not really.

He moved to the 'regista' role late in his career but for United and for the major of his career, he was a central midfielder - yes, i am away he was a SS/AM when he was still a tyro.

In those days Scholes was described as an attacking midfielder as he was a cm that was very attacking. With the shift away from 442 the attacking midfielder in that sense is rarely seen as most teams pack the midfield meaning the defence would be exposed as it's very gung ho.

We find this out the hard way when we went away to top European sides that played with more than two midfielders.

You've really gotta credit Scholes for the about of goals he used to score from that position. It's a lot harder to do than what Gerrard and Lampard did playing in a midfield 3.

Am I the only one who thinks an immediate improvement to the England team would be to sack Hodgson?

See if Mourinho will do it in addition to the Chelsea job.

Play abroad

Send under 21 players or even under 18 players to play in academies in Holland, Germany etc

Get Glen Hoddle in to sort out the youth system. He did pretty well in spain with that took in players without a contract. I think at one point they took over a club in adminstration and did alright for the level they were at, but my memory is fuzzy on that.

We do. Gerard and Lampard for instance. High scoring attacking midfielders.

It is players with a bit of forward going craft in the middle we lack. Gerard attempts it, but just ends up giving the ball away most of the time.
