Perplexed by Ozil mania

Don't get me wrong, he's a top top top player. Arsenal have pulled off a real coup getting him even if they did have to pay more than 3 times what Madrid paid only a few years ago. He's a far younger and better version of Rosicky so he's definitely going to improve them no doubt.

However........Whenever I watch Arsenal, I never really find myself thinking that they lack in that department. They've always make and create goalscoring chances. More so than most teams actaully. Sometimes their strikers are a little wasteful it has to be said but they still get chances aplenty.

The reason a trophy hasn't been forthcoming for so long is at the opposite end of the pitch. Their keeper and back 4 hasn't been anywhere near good enough for a real serious title challenege for years now. And they haven't addressed it yet again.

Ozil will be a hit with the fans and he'll do well at Arsenal I'm certain of it. However if they don't spend mega money on that back 5 or get really really lucky and uncover some real unknown gems.......Ozil will just be another good player in a team that doesn't win trophies.

Our next 6 or 7 PL fixtures could make the picture look a lot brighter for us. Or a lot bleaker depending on whether you're an optimist or a pessimist.

Palace H
City A
WestBrom H
Sunderland A
Soton H
Stoke H
Fulham A

Then after those games it's.....Arsenal H

No such thing as an easy fixture in the PL but those games coming up, city aside, look far more promising to me. I even think with the right personel and tactics we can even repeat our away win at City from last season. Nani, Kagawa, Rooney and RVP as our front 4 with Carrick and Fellaini in midfield would give them plenty food for thought. Just hope Moyes an get them all on the pitch together at the same time.

Our back 5 helped us get the 2nd best defensive record. We struggled badly with creativity the last 2 seasons since Cesc went so Ozil will make up for it. I would worry more about your own side Mancs because with Moyes in charge and your ageing best players you're fighting Spurs for fourth spot.

So you took a Liverpool player out of your name and put a Man United player there instead?

Lost a bet to a Liverpool poster so had no choice. He picked this username for me.

So much ignorance on one thread. Are back 4 is fine, I would not change a single player from it, I believe all 4 are top class defenders although of course there is room for improvement from Koscielny and Gibbs.

The problem is that we give the opposition too much space because nobody shields the back 4. People are mentioning the Villa game, well it's not really a coincidence seeing as we had no DM and Arteta was injured. Since we lost at WHL last season we tightened up and grinded out wins. We won 8 1-0 games last season, that was 2 more than anybody else in the league and is the most 1-0 victories we have had in a season since 04/05 (9).

The problem is that we have been missing a DM and we now have one in the form of Flamini. Just because he was a facking freebie doesn't mean he doesn't count, he was brilliant vs Spurs and if he plays like that every week then we have a quality player.

Ozil is exactly the player we have been missing, we are too predictable and don't have any urgency on the ball and it has been that way since Cesc left. Now we will play at a faster tempo, our football will be more entertaining again and there will be more cutting edge.

We still need a striker, though and the jury is out on Szczesney but he has looked good so far this season.

this article is basically what every non Arsenal fan still thinks of us but not what most Arsenal fans think. Since we lost Cesc we stopped playing great football, last season our defence was the best it's been for years and we are defending as a team with great spirit these days.
