Tonights friendly against Croatia is a match that i would find very hard to predict what the actual result will be.
I say this because the ROI have had some very mixed results in previous years for August fixtures. Some of the reasons for this i believe are
(1).This match is usually played just before the English Premiership starts and players understandably are very keen to not pick up injuries- classic example of this was seen in our 3-0 defeat to Australia in Aug 09. None of the Irish team seemed to actually care about this match and treated it like a training session.
(2). The vast majority of the side (The Premiership players) are still in pre-season so they will obviously be lacking sharpness.
Here are our results over the past few years for the August friendlies
Aug 06 - Holland 0-4
Aug 07 - Denmark 4-0
Aug 08 - Norway 1-1
Aug 09 - Australia 0-3
Aug 10- Argentina 0-1
