What really happened with Shane Long

From CHRIS LEPKOWSKI

#wba due to release statement. Claiming Hull tried to reduce fee after bid accepted

Garlick: “We accepted Hull’s offer in principle and gave them permission to speak to Shane.... #wba

Garlick: Hull then informed us they could not finance deal ..& wanted to reduce it to level we would never have accepted in 1st place #wba

I understand the initial Hull bid was £6.5million. This was accepted by #wba. Hull then tried to reduce it after Albion accepted it

Hull's version of events will no doubt differ. No mention of renegotiation from the initial £6.5m at their end #wba

In any case, Long remains a #wba player. Whether Hull will respond, we'll see.

Bizzare.

Worth pointing out for balance, I've spoken to colleagues in Hull who say Tigers officials were clear about their version of events... #wba

This could lead to a rather nasty relationship between the 2 clubs.

Hulls response will be interesting.

Mr Potato Head not happy is he?

Whatever version of events are true, we haven't done anything wrong. Shane Long was always OUR player. This means we can do what we want.

What Hull were supposed to do was set a deadline to settle the transfer. Instead we waited as long as we could, and when we couldn't get Lukaku, we pulled the plug which we were fully entitled to do.

This is a lesson in how not to conduct business. How many times in the past have we been shafted by agents, clubs, players etc? Welcome to the Premier League Hull City.

Garlick claims the sale of Long had absolutely nothing to do with bringing Lukaku in.

Reckon that's BS tbh. We would have sanctioned the deal if we brought in Quag or Rom, surely?

I couldn't give a shít about any relationship with Hull City Tigers turning nasty. They have nothing to offer us. Richard Garlick has given a full and credible account of the matter on the Albion website, and I believe him. I've never found Albion to go on record on their website with untruths. I think we were all surprised that Albion were willing to let Long go, and I think if anything we would have pulled the plug on buying Anichebe if we'd been able to get Lukaku.
