Billy - End of

when the loan window opens on Tuesday, John Ryan has confirmed.

Striker Sharp is widely expected to leave Southampton on loan this month after being told he has no future at the club by boss Mauricio Pochettino.

But Rovers chairman Ryan has ruled out an approach for the 27-year-old due to a lack of funds.

“Billy is a player I would have loved to have come back to us but it’s not going to happen at this time I’m afraid," Ryan told the Star.

“We cannot afford his wages and Southampton have made it very clear that they want whoever takes him to pay the full amount.

“You’re talking around £20,000 a week which is an astronomical figure for us.

“Even if they relaxed that and wanted a percentage, we still wouldn’t be in a position to go in for him.

“We’ve exhausted the budget in order to keep Richie Wellens and Reece Wabara as well as bringing in Theo Robinson."

Rovers have been linked with a move for Sharp throughout the summer but it appears any deal would have rested on the potential takeover of the club going ahead.

Sharp was expected to leave Southampton before Monday’s transfer deadline but the club’s hard stance over his wages proved a stumbling block.

The Saints want 100 per cent of his wages paid by any club who would sign him on loan and that has put off the likes of Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Leeds.

Ryan insists such deals will continue to be beyond Rovers while ever attendances at the Keepmoat remain low.

The chairman was particularly disappointed by the 6,769 crowd last Saturday for the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

He said: “Myself, D*** (Watson) and Terry (Bramall) can’t keep propping up deals like this, particularly when we are not getting supporters through the turnstiles.
(MODERATORS AGAIN)

“The attendance for the Bournemouth game was particularly disappointing. Shocking, I’d say, for the Championship.

“While ever we have crowds like that, players like Billy Sharp are going to be out of our reach."

FIRST LINE GOT OMITTED BUT ROVERS WILL NOT BE PERSUING THE MOVE WHEN THE WINDOW OPENS ON TUESDAY.

ANOTHER BLIP OF REALITY, BUT THE FANS ARE CARRYING THE CAN

A quick political reflection.

In the 60's Donny was a very patriarchal society. Girls mainly worked in shops or Burtons, men mainly worked in factories or mines. They got married, had kids which were the women's responsibility whilst the men went to the pub and football.
It was then generally agreed that women should get a better deal (equality), so things began to change, gradually.
It was then decided that Britain didn't need a manufacturing or mining industry, so particularly in places like Donny (that phrase again) there was a big shift in male/female roles.

I believe that to be one of the reasons why Rovers have lost that hereditary following.

It is advisable not to take this comment too literally!

The difference between us and Swansea is that there were not three successful clubs in a small radius of Swansea pulling the fringe supporters. That is where Rovers lost out.

So what you are saying Say Lavee is that men started having the babies, no wonder the birth rate dropped.

Rovers have always had clubs nearby, they also have a population nearly the same as Wales within traveling distance.

The joke was anything but!

Excellently put Say_Lavee. Football and sport in general was very much a "man's game", probably until the 70s at least, so it was believed that women were not interested; it was never discussed with them and very few women or girls went to games. Having to stand and enduring the elements may have been a factor.

Incidentally quite a lot of women did work in factories in Wheatley. There was the British Nylon Spinners factory plus all the sweet factories, Parkinsons, Radiance Toffees and never-to-be-forgotten Nuttall's and their mintoes which are just not the same any more since the Athron Street factory with that pungent aroma was closed. A school friend and fellow Rovers supporter used live about half way down that street. I haven't seen him for 30 years. I wonder if he still goes?

Hound, read it again, I believe I pointed out "Almost". JR and his need for publicity is my dislike for him.. Hereford in the Conference and that is as far as it goes...Why was the need for that????????. Yes he has done good, there is never a doubt but not everybody wants to hear it, We are a little club and should accept that case . I have never spoken to the man and I should be allowed to have my opinion. You and I have been mates for lots of years but there are people on this site must think we are sworn enemies. You have your opinion and I have mine. I have no problem with you at all. But I think that he has alienated far too many people for his own good, many of them are more powerful than me

hey Yankee, looks like somebody has been talking , they have taken up the idea of STH claiming a cheaper ticket for Forest game to bring a friend. Somebody is talking to them, they are certainly not clever enough to dream this one up themselves. Do not remember them talking over in September last year though -------My how time flies, still I am not criticising them, good scheme

They are also doing a fan appreciation day at the same game Mick, just like the idea I gave DP about the Brewers.
