Early predictions

With a break in games this week its a good first time to take stock on how the season has been going so far. We have 13 points from 5 games and unless Orient have it in mind to suddenly become invincible, the top of the table is in reach and with our next two league games at home maybe we will get there very soon. And the transfer window has closed so we know who is available for the coming months and that includes new men Ricketts. McDonald and Golbourne and surprisingly the retained Sako and Doyle. But we haven't yet got shot of O'Hara and Johnson.

So whats the early prediction for where we will end up in May;

Not a loan fan persoanlly, would rather our own played together than help out the big boys developing theirs.

Cyp

There are different types of loan, Cinci, but I agree if its just to give a bigger clubs player experience then Im not a fan either.

(That is not what I think will happen, that is what must happen)

All seems very positive and that's justified from whats happened so far. But in reality Jackett has only been here 5 minutes and we should not forget that 2 years ago McCarthy had us in the top 3 of the Premier and last year Solbakken had us in the top 3 of the Championship. So I wont change my mind on holding fire on real opinions until the season is 3 months old but its certainly good so far.

I agree we surely have the best squad and I think we will be ok to hold onto people in January as long as promotion looks on the cards. The most likely sale at that time is probably Hennessey if he has proved his fitness by then.

Don't get me wrong DJ.
My smiley face is not my current opinion of KJs performance so far (so far he has done all right but we have been here before as you point out), it is more about where we must finish this year.
Non-promotion will be more disastrous then relegation last year in my opinion.
The situation today is an easier sell to the better players e.g rebuilding....new manager....blah blah....will be in Championship next year....etc.etc.
If we are still in League 1 next year, those claims will seem increasingly fragile and we will lose a lot the championship quality players that we already have.

Good point Muddy.

That would be the biggest issue for sure, losing some good talent if we do not make it.
I was worried it may take a few years to clear out the issues but kj has been remarkably efficient so far.

As an indication of the kind of 'sell' we are making - this quote from Golbourne taken from Taras thread:

"I have decided to gamble that we will go up from League One this year and then next season the club plans to be a top six Championship club with the aim of going into the Premier League.'

Harder to sell the club after 3 seasons in League 1 and selling our best players to 'mega rich' Sheff Utd.
We have to go up otherwise the re-building could take years.

That's why I think promotion is the only thing that matters this season. If don't go up then not only will we lose the likes of Sako, Doyle and Hennessey but probably the likes of Batth and Griffiths and maybe other young players that make an impression as well. We will be right back to square one again next August
