I agree with KJ.
I have never really bought into the idea that an influx of overseas players has ruined the English team.
I much prefer the top English players playing week in week out against the worlds best.
It surely has to improve you and means it is less of a shock when you meet the exact same players on international duty.
For England the problem has always been management picking the same 'star' names irrespective of current form.

The England team has been an old boys club for decades.
Heskey with 50 caps says it all.

Why don't we go for which ever manager is top of the Scottish Premier League.

I can see both sides of this argument. Kenny is right in saying that we can hardly say the National team was better when there were less foreigners in the league unless you go back to 1966.

But I do think it is getting harder and harder for young English players to get a game in the Premier League and if 32% of the players are currently English, I bet the majority of those play for teams in the lower half of the league, and unless some restrictions are imposed I think the % will continue to get lower. Says something when in a World Cup qualifier tonight we will have a 31 year old making his first start at centre forward. Countries like Germany, France and Italy do benefit from having more eligible players in their top flight.

Having said all that I'm not that bothered cause I am far more interested in how Wolves are getting on than I am about England.

DJ - I believe it's good that its harder for English players to get a game, they don't have a divine right to play because they are English.
If you can't get a game and you really want to play, go away, work harder, train and practise more, spend less time round the Bentley dealership and crying about it.
Surely 32% of the players in the premier league is enough to put out decent team?
Even if they are playing for the poorer sides, they are still facing world class players, in fact I think alot of the young English players are better playing for the poorer sides, at least they'd get a game every week rather than a bench warmer for a bigger club.

Fair comments muddy but in a way you hit the nail on the head. As you say a lot of the English players in the top flight are playing for the poorer teams and are facing world class players. But the issue is how do we make it so the Englishmen are the world class players. A team containing the likes of Cahill, Jagielka, Lambert and an ageing Lampard are good enough to put Moldova away but when the latter stages of the World Cup come around its difficult to see them beating Spain, Germany, Brazil and Argentina

The whole England set up is a farce in my opinion.

The passion and commitment shown by players like Lambert who fully appreciate and love the privilege of pulling on the national shirt would likely be replicated by numerous other players playing for the lesser lights in the prem.
Instead its a case of ''oh, you have played 3 times for Utd, well you better get an England cap then''.
And Milner, WTF, he doesn't even play for city but because he is there he gets a free pass ahead far more effective players.......Kevin Nolan for an example.
