Emiliano Viviano

I know this is a little late, but I've had trouble finding time to sit down and write this.

Is anyone slightly confused by the arrival of Viviano?

While we've understood the need for a goalkeeper, Viviano’s signing seems a little strange. Not because of any doubts about his ability - with six Italy caps it's clear he is a talent - but because of the continued talk over the summer about what we needed in a goalkeeper.

The general consensus is that Szczesny’s form has suffered for complacency, and he needs to be either kept on his toes or be replaced by somebody markedly better; would Viviano fit either criterion? We are talking about a goalkeeper who has seen consecutive loan deals since he arrived at Palermo; if he’s not even rated by a second-tier Italian club, will he strike that much fear into Szczesny, when his own compatriot (who still plays more games for the national side) has failed to do so?

Do you truly think that's the case?

How is getting a reserve goalkeeper on loan a panic buy?

That's such a dopey statement...

He will clearly want too impress Arsenal in the hope he gets a transfer here, so will fight hard too displace Sir Chesney. Especially on a world cup year.

Not rated by a second tier club but played the majority of games for the team who finished 4th

Think you need to check your facts OP.

The facts are he conceded 35 goals in 32 games and Fiorentina decided to go out and buy a 35 year old keeper from Levante rather than keep him on.

That is more to do with €€€s, and the 35 year old from Levante hasn't replaced Viviano, the 24 year old Neto has.

When did I say the 35 year old was his replacement?

I think that is a result of Fiorentina's attacking approach. Their defence isn't that great, anyway.
