Steve Bruce, Shane Long

Being reported in the Birmingham Mail that Steve Bruce could be in for Shane Long again in January.
When Bruce was asked if he would try to sign the 26-year-old in the next transfer window he replied: “You never know what will happen in the next three or four months, but if he became available again of course I would be interested."
Steve Bruce also has this to say:
“I’m obviously bitterly disappointed that we didn’t get Shane Long. That would have been the icing on the cake in terms of the squad we’re trying to get together. We thought at one stage we were really, really close, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. That’s West Brom’s prerogative, he’s their player and they changed their mind for whatever reason. It would have been great for us if it happened, I’m a big admirer of the boy. I’m sure Shane is as disappointed as anyone, stuck at our training ground, left high and dry effectively."
Maybe Steve Bruce ought to ask his DofF what happened between Hull's initial and second bids. If Hull bid one figure then tried a lower one, as Richard Garlick has unequivocally said on the Albion website and in the Press, then yes Steve, it is West Brom's prerogative to change our mind about selling Shane Long to Hull. If you want him in January, make a bid that matches our valuation and then stick to it, or go elsewhere.

Sounds like Bruce is trying to unsettle Shane. Plant a few seeds of doubt in his mind.

I'll be totally honest....

........... Shane hasn't show me much in his performances this past year. He does huff and puff. He does work hard for the team as well fair play. He's also a real nice bloke. But he just doesn't score enough. He doesn't even get in goal scoring opportunities. His hold up play isn't brilliant and his first touch is woeful. His need to go to the ground during every challenge also infuriates me.

It's a shame because he was a monster when he first came. Hey, maybe he can get back to that.

If Hull come in with a January bid of 6,000,000 then id personally consider selling, unless his form drastically changes.

Yep. As much as I like Shane I don't think he has scored anywhere near enough. Perhaps he just doesn't like the systems we play? This may well change with the new players setting him up.

I hope so.

I think most of us agree that Shane Long doesn't score nearly enough goals. If we can identify a goalscorer for the January transfer window, or if we score enough goals without Long's contribution, we should let him go for £6m.
