That guy who plays for the white of Madrid. Yes, I am referring to Gareth Bale. I know some may see him as a mercenary and some may have a bitter taste about the way he departed the club. Regardless of all the behind the scenes garbage, I think Spurs have a lot to thank Bale for. His departure has catapulted us from a nearly team and a team that had to push to achieve a top 4 finish to a team with great potential in the coming years and also into a team that can finish much higher than 4th.
Taking nothing away from the way Levy and Baldini engineered our best transfer window in the last 10 years and spent the Bale money to the greatest of their ability I just couldn't see us spending anywhere near that much had Bale stayed. Bales performances last season not only kept us up there in the league but it also was most likely the reason half of our signings agreed to come. Just see a lot of Bale bashing on here and on a few spurs sites and think it is very unfair criticism for someone who has transformed our club into something special and with his departure has let spurs build "possibly" one of our greatest squads.

Bale is a great player, and will get even better. Hoddle for me was the greatest I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt...genius is a word used too frequently now, but in his case it's well deserved

Ver it's just stand off tacticts, Bale gave you 100% in every game from what i've watched. They way it ended is Real Madrid's way of doing business although Levy extracted every penny possible out of them and i applaud him for doing so
Your club has benefited from Bale, he has got his dream move, i hope Barca hump them, and you're now a top 4 club in waiting

Not disagreeing with you Pol, if Bale had done the sensible thing and come in for training then disappeared to have his 'injury' treated I wouldn't have a problem. But refusing to honour his contract and disrespect the club was unforgiveable...just my opinion though.

he was a majestic player from my recollection. he's your football hero and i respect that fully,

Bale had no need to act like he did thats my complaint. For the money RM were offering Levy was always going to deal and I dont blame him. There was no need for Bale to act like a petulant child, but then that seems the norm now for anybody under about 30 who does not get their own way exactly when they want to.

I can understand Spurs fans feeling that way, I felt that way with Gary Hooper leaving us in the summer, At least with Bale he's moving to a bigger club, (absolutely no disrespect intended) but Hooper leaving for Norwich?????
I genuinely hope Spurs make top 4, my english team is Liverpool, 2nd Spurs and I hope "we" both make it
