Bit late with the article, but first chance ive had to get on line today
Great performance on the whole by the lads, especially in the second half, little bit dissapointed in Leverkusen however, I was expecting a lot more from a side ive seen quite a bit of over the last couple of seasons.
De Gea- not much for him to do on the whole, thought he could have done better with the 2nd goal however.
Smalling- one his better performances at RB in a united shirt, solid in defence and got forward well
Ferdinand/Vidic- Vidic was solid enough, Ferdinand was a little suspect at times, is he finally starting to show his age??
Evra- still goes AWOL from his position, needs to stop this, especially seeing as he will be up against Navas on Sunday
Valencia- best United performance in over a year, really excellent, finally looked like the old Valencia, taking on and beating his man time after time, and also put in a few good crosses his goal was a proper united goal, best goal of the night.
Fellaini/Carrick- Fellaini was very good in defence, allowed carrick a little bit of freedom, a little sloppy in possession at times but worked hard to win it back, Carrick was superb, a materclass, seems to be getting even better, think Fellaini sitting deep can allow Carrick to finally use his creative abilities in an attacking sense.
Kagawa- looked rusty and off the pace when on the left, the few occasions he came inside and found space he was very good, a passenger for most of the game though, needs games.
RVP- fantastic goal and a decent all round performance, silly yellow card though
Rooney- MOTM, really great performance, probably his best performance for a year in a united shirt, more of the same please Wayne!, when he plays like that he's as good as any CF on the planet.
all in all a really encouraging first game of the Moyes CL era, we played some great football in the second half and the 4th goal was sensational goal which reminded me of the Ronaldo days of 2006/7/8.

Definite obstruction, shouldn't have stood. But that's football.

First goal Evra was offside and Valencia was pretty much grinding up the Leverkusen Goalkeeper. Shouldn't have stood!
Good review though Mex. Fellaini was definitely sloppy with the ball, but hopefully he'll become more accustomed to the players movements which may help him. Not his biggest fan but so far, he may be the key that allows Carrick to move further up the pitch and get involved in attacks now and then.
