Just back from the game.
Still can't believe that ending.
I feel like I've just been mugged. You can't make it up!
Overall I thought we were the much better side although they had more clearcut chances. We played like the home team tonight.
Our defence is now looking quite solid and it took a sending off and a lack of concentration at the very end for them to score.
Plus of course Adam Le Fondre.
I remember when we got a similar mugging at home a couple of seasons ago by Southampton who were league leaders at the time (Warnocks first home game).
Again, we were the better team by miles then but they had spent a million or so on a certain Rickie Lambert and he was the only reason they got 3 points.
Tonight was the clearest example to me yet that we need a big name striker.
Especially when we play Ross so deep (not sure why that is happening BMD?)
And how Matt Smith can get a game over EHD is absolutely beyond me!
Best display out there tonight was our supporters (as usual) and I cannot leave this post without mentioning just out terrible Reading fans are.
I thought Arsenal were quiet but tonight was ridiculous.
Harsh...

exile, its not about goals conceded, if it was we'd be 2nd in table.
Every team above us bar QPR has not conceded less goals than us.
The reason they are more successful than us in points haul is because they score more goals than us.
The problem, as most folk can see is that we need a decent goalscorer.

makes a change, we usually score plenty & concede plenty. but now we have stopped the goals we are not scoring enough.

Jonty, I hear what you say and agree - however, goals conceded is just as important - we 'had' to stop conceding goals willy nilly like the last few seasons....next thing as virtually everyone agrees is to find the bloody net

People,
You're going to have to face reality, McCormack is not a prolific goal scorer, and never will be.
If he was a prolific goal scorer he'd be doing a Becchio regularly, but he doesn't, he runs hot and cold, something we can't afford.
Let's not forget, Ross had a go at Becchio before he left, but Ross hasn't justified making those remarks, and he never will.
Becchio leaves, goals dry up = Ross ain't no Becchio.
MickyDee, even some fans on radio are starting to say we should try to get Becchio back on loan, I fully agree.
MickyDee, don't let GFH dictate to you the way Grayson and Warnock allowed Bates to dictate and control them or, in all honesty, you won't last to long.
GFH will eventually feel, and hear the fans wrath if they don't do anything and put business before team, Bates got it, so will GFH eventually.
Mark my words.

If he was played upfront, he'd score goals.

exile, completely agree defence is more effective than last season and personally I think Wooton is a great addition.
Will be challenging now with 2 out of back 4 out.

There are 2 parts to creativity, first half is someone who can see the opportunity and have the ability to pick the pass and second part is someone who can give a player the opportunity to pick the pass. Unfortunately with Ross deep we don't have the second part have to resort to fight balls, set pieces or a moment of brilliance.

Defence is miles better than it has been for some considerable time. Still makes fundamental mistakes too often for my liking but better than it was.
We lack creativity in midfield and potency up front. Both need addressing to ensure that this is not another wasted season (and I'm not expecting promotion btw). I want to see progress.

But we never looked like scoring at all.
And when you play against a team has good has reading its only a matter of time before they nick a goal.
