Hey all - I hope you like this video that I found on youtube (the opening sequence is quite long!!).
Jean Alesi made one crucial decision in his career.
He went with his heart and joined Ferrari, only to find that the team he rejected (Williams) went on to be the team of the decade.

Jean Alesi - 1990 Highlights

good evening welshy
would imagine his decision to turn williams down will haunt alesi for evermore , in fact i believe his was probably one of the greatest lost talents of the sport due to being in the wrong place at the right time or wrong time ( you know what i am trying to say )
had he joined williams he might have won the WDC in 91 as i believe he was more talented than mansell and hence would have done a better job than nigel , certainly jean would have won it in 92 ,
beating prost in 93 probably would have been a step to far for jean ,
--- as i say his story/ F1 career if you actually think about it was one of the great tragedies of formula 1 as with a little more hindsight his story might of been of being ranked with the all time greats --

Did you see his "jumped start" at the Goodwood Revival?
This superb film captures the start brilliantly.

We were just down from there but could easily see the big screen.
So marginal that the penalty was unjust.
Other than that he was the highlight of the early part of the event.
Until that Aston-Martin Project 212 got going.
Invincible!
Alesi in his heyday was a super-talented and flamboyant driver, I would rate him right up there with the likes of Hamilton, Peterson, Villenueve, Rodriguez and Rindt.
The difference is that all thiose drivers managed to find good teams, even if only after a while, but Alesi seemed to stagnate at Ferrari.
Wasted talent, now a Historics Super-Star. (Provided the owner can afford the repair bills)

I respect what he did in following his heart. After all its more important to be happy than anything else. That said it was a lost talent and its a shame that he couldn't find a competitive seat for at least a couple of seasons.
