Not bothered about the League Cup

I am not bothered about tonights result.I would like us to win but I have lost faith in the League Cup. It’s a game during the week we could do without, especially with the lack of depth we have. Previous years its been fun watching our youth play. Seeing some of the players like Gibbs, Jenkinson, Wilshere, Fabregas, Walcott etc. But this year I think it’s a distraction.

I do not care if we lose tonight, I will be disappointed as I never like my team to lose but not angry (unless it’s a thrashing)

I will tune in and may watch the highlights (If we win) but with Swansea this weekend and Napoli next week its doesn't have the same impact.

Some will say its our only chance of Silverware. If we win it I will celebrate but if not (Unless its the scenario v Birmingham in the final a few years back) I will not butt an eyelid.

I would prefer a team like Swansea, Fulham etc go for this cup. It’s a distraction for the top 6 or 7 teams.

If this was the FA cup it would be different as in truth that’s my favorite competition. Even higher then the CL IMO (in excitement and prestige).

So if we do not win tonight……least we have less games to worry about…….

Chicken - good post.

we have actually lost the final twice since our last trophy, i was just as gutted when those games went against us as when we lost the UEFA final, CL final.

If we won just the capitol one cup i'd be happy but not over-joyed. it means nothing without winning anything else.

Did anyone actually say they actively don't want Arsenal to win the LC?

Pretty sure no-one did, all I've read is "don't care if we don't win it", which is nothing like "don't want Arsenal to win it".

Honestly, what's the point of having all this glorious subtley in our language if you're going to ignore it?

You do realize it's your only chance for a trophy, right?

Yeah, because trophies like the FA Cup are only for the very best teams, like Wigan (no offence Wigan).

Get off the internet, boy, you're clogging it up.

Ollie!

Fa Cup winners since 2000

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Portsmouth, Chelsea, Chelsea, Man City, Chelsea, Wigan

Wigan and Portsmouth clearly outliers.

League Cup winners since 2000

Chelsea, Man U, Chelsea, Spurs, Man U, Man U, Birmingham, Liverpool, Swansea

=========================

Or if you just take the last nine years, it shows as follows:

FA Cup:

Arsenal = 1
Chelsea = 4
Liverpool = 1
Man City = 1
Portsmouth = 1
Wigan = 1

And the League Cup:

Birmingham = 1
Chelsea = 2
Liverpool = 1
Man U = 3
Spurs = 1
Swansea = 1

Birmingham and Wigan cancel eachother out.

And as you can see, there's not much difference between the rest.

So claiming it is not being taken seriously when:

6 out of 9 years the FA Cup has been won by a current Top 4 side.

And:

6 out of 9 years the League Cup has been won by a current Top 4 side.

So my point that only Spurs and Liverpool take it seriously is total rubbish is actually very true...
